Minor concern with sources[edit]

The go.jp source seems poorly translated to say the least. And the detail page for this dam here is "under construction". The google-book "Roller compacted concrete dams: proceedings of the fourth International ... " sounds extremely learned but includes this wonderful sentence. Because they are such a new type of dams they can use extremely low quality materials.. Apart from the grammatical solecism and the worrying types of material suggested (I would not wish to live downstream from anything constructed using unwashed aggregate, as the almost inevitable water penetration would open up voids), I am doubtful that I would trust any source that suggests novelty is a factor in choice of material. Moreover the all important page 38 is missing from the preview. The chapter does, however, point to the CSG coffer dam in the Nagashima Dam reservoir, (the check dam is described by us as "the first in Japan to be constructed with the cemented sand and gravel method" - when the coffer dam appears to have been constructed first). To my untrained eye the diagram 23 on page 37 would indicate it is broadly trapezoidal. Rich Farmbrough, 22:02, 31 July 2011 (UTC).[reply]

I agree with you on the concerns with the paper. Because a dam is new doesn't mean it can use different material from other dams. I would've expected a reference to the design, not the dam's age. Pg. 38 does state "...at the same time, the maximum compressive strength in a concrete gravity dam is relatively low when compared to other structures. This means that a trapezoidal concrete dam can utilize even [CSG] as its dam body material." This design appears to be a cost-cutter/space-saver at best. They saved money on concrete and at the dam site, you can tell they had to fit a smaller embankment in that area. Regarding it being the first trapezoidal CSG, they are more than likely referring to it as the first main dam to use the technology. I will tweak the lead. On the book preview, I can see pg. 38, not pg. 37.--NortyNort (Holla) 23:08, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

TO DEV LOPE THE CSG DAM IN IRAN[edit]

RESPECTED DIRECTORY,in any way iam trying the best to contact any expert about the CSGdam. iam an Iranian consultant engineer as a hydro power dam manager ,since two years i am studying on CSG DAM to develop in my country for first time in a very hot place .we completed the faze two of geotechnical explorer y and we are suppose to design the CSG DAM with 18 m hight and 120 m length of dam with alluvium material. but regarding to design and the location of spill way and diversion system and monitoring system we face with many explanation questions so will you please contact our company or link me with any Japanese expert involve with CSG DAM to support us to develop it in Iran for first time .i am so proud in ICOLD in Vietnam i attended in japanning paper about CSG DAM . THANKING YOU NADER JAFARI TEHRAN IRAN
