Once Bitten, Twice Shy (Great White song)Once Bitten, Twice Shy — This song was originally written and released by Ian Hunter in 1975. Great White's 1989 cover version may be notable, but I don't think the band's name belongs in the article title. Drench (talk) 14:36, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

NB - in the course of the discussion I renamed the article to just "(song)", and changed the redirect to point here.--Kotniski (talk) 14:43, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom, especially as there does not seem to be another use of the title "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" (currently a redirect to Once Bitten). It might help if the article was expanded to include a mention of Hunter, though. PC78 (talk) 23:03, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: I think the title makes it fairly clear that it's about the cover version by Great White, and the article is written for that purpose. Moving it would simply take it out of context and cause the subject of the article to essentially change. It would be better to simply write Once Bitten, Twice Shy as an article for the original version by Ian Hunter, and handle it separately, as what is essentially a different song. I agree that if this is simply a cover version it should mention the original version in the article (with a wikilink) at some point, though. • The song is the same, regardless of who sings it. I believe the convention is to cover different versions of a song in the same article; see I Think We're Alone Now, for example. Also, we should not disambiguate a page title when there is no reason to do so, and in this case there is no other use of the title. PC78 (talk) 00:33, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment the main title should probably be an article about the aphorism, rather than any song. 76.66.200.95 (talk) 04:15, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - the song seems to be the only usage of the phrase that's likely to get an encyclopedia article. Or if someone writes (or thinks there might soon be) an article on the aphorism, then change the disambiguator on the song article to simply "(song)".--Kotniski (talk) 14:19, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well anyway, I've put the Ian Hunter information in the article, so it makes no sense to leave it at the present title at the moment, and I'm going to move it to just "(song)" - if someone thinks there should be a separate article for the cover, then please split the information out (but preferably at some later date, when it's more than just a stub).--Kotniski (talk) 14:28, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And just to be clear, I still support moving it to simply Once Bitten, Twice Shy as originally proposed.--Kotniski (talk) 14:46, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article content[edit]

Over a decade after the above naming discussion, the article remains mostly about obscure and largely forgotten American cover versions rather than Hunter's original version, which is much better known, at least in Britain. It regularly appears on 70s compilation CDs and playlists. --Ef80 (talk) 17:52, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
