I was going to add something like this:

Since the "Leopard" release of Mac_OS_X, Open MPI has been included by default, with integration into the Xgrid frameworks.

What is it for?[edit]

I don't really care that it is used by the world's fastest computer or that it is a merger of other software projects. I gather it is some sort of message passing protocol, but what sort of messages passed between what and over what? And what sort of thing could it be used for?
