German divisions[edit]

I have a map here which shows the 91st and 243rd infantry divisions on it for July 24th. However the 91st as far as i know was destroyed in Cherbourg - did any of its personnel fight another day, so to speak, in Normandy following Cherbourg?

As for the 243rd i dont have any other information on them, do we have collaborating evidence to support it?

A further map shows either a 74 or a 25 Corp holding the St. Malo area - do we have any information on what forces they provided?

2nd Panzer is sourced at transferring back to the Orne Valley just before Cobra kicked off, was it involved in the Mortain counterattack, is this way it is shown in the OOB?--EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 20:17, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No evidence of 91st & 243rd divisions involvement in Cobra. Regarding the XXV Corps: "The German XXV Corps was known to be weak and lacking the mobility to create a major threat to Bradley's armies." Regarding the 2nd SS Panzer, citing: "As the Americans columns lay strung out over miles of unfamiliar country, German units began to fight with all their customary ferocity to escape entrapment. There were elements of 2nd SS Panzer, 17th SS and 353rd Infantry divisions..." || "On the night of 29 July, elements of 67th Armored Regiment and 41st Armored Infantry found themselves fighting for their lives against a column from 2nd SS Panzer and 17th SS who smashed through their lines in darkness near St.Denis;le-Gast." Nothing found about a 74 Corps, maybe you wanted to mention 84 Corps? --Eurocopter (talk) 20:57, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To beg your pardon i was referring to the Heer 2nd Panzer division not the 2nd SS Panzer ;) and sorry yes, 74 was a typo i was referring to 84 Corps.--EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 21:47, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, sorry. Hastings says 2nd Panzer took part in Cobra, but mentions quite few details regarding it. It says only that together with the 116th, they couldn't afford many losses in front of the Americans at Percy. Regarding 84 Corps, no evidence of presence during Cobra. --Eurocopter (talk) 22:04, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
