Merge with Psychosexual Stages[edit]

The entire page is roughly restating what is already said in the psychosexual stages page, it isn't even elaborating on it.--Cube b3 (talk) 21:05, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Headline text[edit]

I think the theories of Sigmund Freud are being misunderstood in the "Criticism" section, because it says "no evidence has confirmed that extended breast-feeding might lead to an oral-stage fixation", but clearly Freud's theories go indeed in a completely different way: in one word, Freud says that unsatisfactory experiences with the object cause a fixation, no matter how much time the baby has been breastfed. Furthermore, Melanie Klein, going deeper in the topic, asserts that what matters here more is not wheter the child has had a good breast-feed in real world; what matters is wheter child's fantasies and subjective experiences with the breast have been pleasant or not. It seems to me that the nature of the Oral stage and the particulars of an Oral Fixation could and should be covered in the same article. Especially given that both of these articles are stubs and there are an excess number of psychology stubs. Dark Nexus 16:26, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like a good idea to me. --Icarus 03:36, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I concur. ASAP. --Lmsilva 20:11, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed - Sayles
I also agree. They basically say the same thing but Oral Stage actually describes and oral fixation more than the Oral Fixation page. - syberwolff

  • Done. May need some editing. Outriggr 03:06, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused. The article says: "It is believed that fixation in the oral stage can cause one of two things.", and then goes on to talk about the over-fed child, but not the under-fed child. Is there information missing here, or have I missed something? --84.12.171.249 02:11, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I thought the same thing. - Mpnolan 09:33, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone else wonder if that Chad Davidson reference is a defamatory remark introduced by someone who dislikes Chad Davidson? It kind of sticks out, was wondering if it should be removed. --Gus Andrews
