What exactly is an osteotome?[edit]

Hallo everybody, I found you among the contributors to the article on the osteotome on the English Wikipedia. The article is a stub and I am not sure if the definitions in the first lines are correct. The osteotome (German: Osteotom) that I know was invented by the German physician Bernhard Heine in 1830 and was used for opening the skull. In my Commons gallery you can see the pictures that I uploaded, I have some more on my computer. The usage of the instrument can be seen in the Bernhard Heine article. clearly, the instrument referred to as an osteotome in dental surgery differsw drastically from that called an osteotome by orthopaedic surgeons. in ortho. surgery, an osteotme differs from a chisel only in the fact that that the edge is two sided. otherwise, it's a chisel, pure and simple.Toyokuni3 (talk) 18:39, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More information on the web[edit]

I found a lot of information on the osteotome used in dentistry on the web. I am trying to get into contact with one of the authors for photographs and copyright.I also removed the stub-tag and inserted photos of the historical osteotome invented by Bernhard Heine.Hans555 11:11, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
