Contradictory wording

"In 1585, Mir Ali Bey successfully repelled a Portuguese attempt to capture harbors controlled by the Somalis in the Horn of Africa (Barawa, Jumbo and Mogadishu) but failed to do so."
This sentence makes no sense. I've removed the latter, contradictory part, but feel free to rewrite it.--Adûnâi (talk) 16:04, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

why are sources involving ajuraan constantly deleted here even though its clearly on the ajuraan page

ive supplied sources and evidence for ajuraan participation in this war its even on the ajuraan page why are these sources constantly deleted and marked as vandalism --Kndnm64 (talk) 11:34, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

participation of the ajuraan sultanate in the war is well documented by confirmed historians as well as indigenous Somali historians, i dont understand why you feel the need to cut out sources but include the sources you like to have on the page. No amount of excuses can justify removing ajuraan as a combattant in the conflict when their are countless sources that suggest the participation of the ajuraan sultanate in the battle

The Ajuran Sultanate sent fleets to support their Ottomans ally to liberate the Swahili coast that were colonized by the Portuguese.

"At Mogadishu, Mir Ali Bey convinced its inhabitants to rebel against the Portuguese (to whom they owed tribute), and he was joined by a few local vessels in support of his endeavours. Likewise, Barawa and Faza also declared their support and allegiance to the Ottoman Empire, until Mir Ali Bey had about 15 vessels"
  • "the Ajuran Empire had sent vessels in support of a joint military expedition between the Ajuran Empire and the Ottoman Empire led by Emir 'Ali Bey to help liberate Mombasa and other coastal cities in Southeast Africa from the Portuguese"
"However, the Portuguese captain of the east-African coast Mateus Mendes de Vasconcelos, was at Malindi with a small force, and was already well aware of the approach of Mir Ali Bey: a network of spies and informants within the Red Sea itself kept the Portuguese up to date on Turkish movements, and before Mir Ali Bey had even set sail, already Vasconcelos had dispatched a vessel to Goa informing the viceroy that the Turks were about to leave the Red Sea"
  • "The ajuraan-Ottoman offensive led by Mir Ali Bey managed to drive out the Portuguese from several important cities such as Pate, Mombasa and Kilwa. However, the Portuguese governor sent envoys to Portuguese India requesting a large Portuguese fleet"
That's nice, don't reintroduce repetitive information. Also, there was no governor in east-africa, only a captain, meaning its wrong as well. Wareno (talk) 20:43, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

region. At Mogadishu, Mir Ali Bey convinced its inhabitants to rebel against the Portuguese (to whom they owed tribute), and he was joined by a few local vessels in support of his endeavours.

Nice try this information is historically wrong but you don't see me deleting sources also Mogadishu was under the ajuraan sultanate so it confirms that ajuraan sent vessels in support and participated along with the ottomans Kndnm64 (talk) 11:40, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

Also Your removal of sources violate WP:REMOVAL Kndnm64 (talk) 12:11, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

Should this page be merged with the article on Mir Ali Bey?

Several sentences are either incorrect or confusing. examples:

  • "Expedition of Mir Ali Mir Ali Beg to east-Africa 1586" - why twice Mir Ali?
  • "In Mir Ali began his  first voyage" - should "In" be replaced by 'When'?
  • "he came across an arresting  of an Spanish spy that was watching over the Ottoman Empire" - not clear what was meant here.

and so on.

I corrected some minor issues but the main dish is still not palatable.

Upon further consideration: should this article be merged with Mir Ali Beg? That article is well written, clear and most if not all of the information in this article is already present in that other article.
