Why not "Japanese comedy"?[edit]

It seems that this article is talking about Japanese comedy, but "owarai" just means "comedy" in Japanese. In Japan, this term can be used to refer to non-Japanese comedy as well, so it's not specific enough. I think it makes more sense to title this article "Japanese comedy" or similar. 66.235.3.166 (talk) 20:43, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"talents"[edit]

This article seems to use "talent" as a translation of タレント. The disambig page Talent does say that the word is "a television industry term for anyone appearing on-camera", but I wonder if this is so. As I'm not in the television industry I can't know for sure, but I thought that the closest that the English term "talent" got to the Japanese term タレント was when the former was a group, uncountable term: "We have lots of talent on tonight's show!" I could be out of touch, of course. But if I am still on the ball, then "talent" in this article should be "tarento" (with a gloss on its first appearance). -- Hoary 04:08, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've been thinking about that for a while too. I intend to fix up the current Wiki pages for tarento and idol etc. because as they are now there is quite a lot of ambiguity across the board.
For the record, I only intentionally used "talent" on this page as a general pronoun to describe any person within the group of owarai geinin, since I felt it would be rather un-encyclopedic to keep writing owarai geinin every time I needed a pronoun. I also use the terms performer and entertainer in the same way.  freshgavinΓΛĿЌ  02:27, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Manzai[edit]

The part on "Manzai" is unfortunately worded. Manzai is like コント, it's one of the things warai geinin do. Also it makes it sound like manzai is usually performed in kimono, which is not true. Mackan 06:51, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, it was one of the first things I wrote so it's a little bit off. I've fixed it up a bit now.  freshofftheufoΓΛĿЌ  01:43, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Speed wagon.jpg[edit]

Image:Speed wagon.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
