December 30, 2007: Does anyone have knowledge on how to remove Joseph Young's internal hyperlink? It is linking to a different Joseph Young, but I don't see where the link actually IS to remove it. Adrienne (talk) 00:21, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was autolinked through Template:Infobox Settlement. As suggested there, to disable a mistaken autolinked name, I added a non-breaking space (& nbsp;) before the name. olderwiser 06:04, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

December 28, 2007: I added a lot of external links to various shops and companies located in the village, and also did some clean-up and added internal links. BKonrad, please do not delete all this work again. It is not merely a list of external links; I could have simply listed the companies that exist in Oxford, but I decided to take the trouble to find each company's website. Before I revised this section, there was just a short paragraph listing a few restaurants and such. Please think about the work that others have created before you delete it. Adrienne boaz (talk) 03:13, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but yes it was almost entirely nothing more than a list of external links (or some few with no link). I do try to be considerate of the work that others contribute, however, the material should be appropriate as indicated by wikipedia guidelines. For starters, see What Wikipedia is not and External links. olderwiser 03:35, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
From What Wikipedia is not, I think this applies to Oxford too.
"An article on Paris should mention landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, but not the telephone number or street address of your favorite hotel or the price of a café au lait on the Champs-Élysées. Wikipedia is not a place to re-create content more suited to entries in hotel guides, culinary guides, popular eating guides, gazeteers, travelogues, and the like. Notable locations may meet inclusion criteria, but Wikipedia does not list every tourist attraction, restaurant, hotel, venue, etc. Such details may be welcome at Wikitravel, however."
I didn't list every restaurant, hotel, venue, etc. I only listed the predominant establishments which have existed in one location for at least a few years. Most of these places have been around for quite a long time. If it would make you happy, I will remove each external link from the list of places, but I will not consider removing the list, as the shops and companies are intrinsic to Oxford. If they all suddenly disappeared, in a physical sense, Oxford would no longer be Oxford. I am merely attempting to allow wiki users who don't live in Oxford a peek into our lives. Adrienne boaz (talk) 03:53, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, since you mention Paris, how about comparing how things are presented there? Each of the lists in that article include a brief description of what makes that item notable. Most (or perhaps all) of these items are each articles in their own right and are appropriately documented with third-party sources and references supporting assertions of notability. There is nothing of that in this article -- you have presented a bare list that gives the name of the establishment and an external link. That is inappropriate. If you dispute this, then perhaps you should try getting some second opinions. I do not think I am off base here. olderwiser 13:46, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
While I disagree with you on some things, I do see your point in the preceding paragraph. I have modified the culture section. Please keep in mind that culture is not carved in stone; what one person considers culture, another would disregard. Also remember that those of us who live in Oxford hold these places dear, and those of us who do not live in Oxford may not be as appreciative of the various small contributions of culture that these varied establishments offer. I think perhaps that while you have very good intentions of maintaining an efficient wikipedia, you MAY be sterilizing it in an unfriendly manner. MAYBE. But I do thank you for guiding me to the "What wikipedia is not" page. Adrienne (talk) 00:40, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does the OHS still have the title for largest one-story school? I think it has been replaced. Mtv22 00:04, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Oxford WIldcat.jpg[edit]

Image:Oxford WIldcat.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Sister city[edit]

The lead claims Oxford is a sister city of Oxford, UK, but the Brits don't seem to be aware of this: http://web.archive.org/web/20130817150811/http://oxford.gov.uk/PageRender/decAC/Town_twinning_occw.htm It seems unlikely given the disparity in size, the UK Oxford being a city of 150,000. I'm going to mark the claim as dubious. --Ef80 (talk) 22:12, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford, MI claims to be a sister city of Oxford, UK. There is a sign saying this on the way into town Google Street View. I agree that it is incorrect for the article to claim that Oxford, MI is a sister city of Oxford, UK, but it is accurate for it to say that the village claims this. I will update the article. If I can find the time I will talk to the village government about the basis of this claim.Molinari (talk) 18:05, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It is 100% incorrect the Oxford Michigan is not the sister city to Oxford in the UK . It's just to give the yuppies something to wrongly talk about and feel like someone other than what they really are. Good Grief !!!! 2600:6C48:437F:C153:B026:A561:A148:972 (talk) 23:41, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
