Commerical performance[edit]

In the commercial performance section of this article, POV is referred to as a "non-single" multiple times. I'm aware that it was a non-single at the time of charting, but now that it is considered a single, should this be revised? dylxtalk 18:34, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Status as single[edit]

In case people still wondering why it is considered a single is because it was launched as a radio single. (CC) Tbhotch 01:27, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • But where's a release date? Airplay doesn't mean anything. Heartfox (talk) 19:50, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Songs often get picked up for airplay without official add dates. "Un-Thinkable" got picked up ahead of its official release date. There needs to be specific mention of it being sent to radio or being called a single for it to be called one. ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 21:29, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Trust started all of this fans drama about being/not being a single because Grande never said anything about it. This has already been discussed with Hummingbird Heartbeat, Dance in the Dark or every other example of radio-only singles. Radio stations cannot play copyrighted music without explicit authorization from record labels, and here we have 81 US pop stations playing the song. (CC) Tbhotch 21:43, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • If you search All Access at Web Archive there's no mention of "Pov" in the future singles section, previous singles have all appeared there. There's no mention of it being a single anywhere on Billboard or Grande's official website or channels. Wouldn't it be better to wait? ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 21:50, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Radio stations can play album tracks ... every song with airplay is not a single. The examples you're giving about Hummingbird Heartbeat and Dance in the Dark are not cited from tweets. Trust's tweets have been wrong in the past. When he writes "promoted to radio upon release" for a song released on a Friday, the song's release dates have actually been the next Monday (which is when the tracking week for radio starts) per All Access, not on Friday "upon release". Trusts' tweets are not always accurate. Heartfox (talk) 21:51, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Beyoncé's "Dangerously in Love 2" was never released as a single, but still charted on radio airplay charts because radio stations can play album tracks... just because "POV" received airplay doesn't make it an official release. Heartfox (talk) 21:55, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • It's not very wise to say "Trusts' tweets are not always accurate." Practically you are saying "Billboard editors are not necessarily reliable" and that has consequences (look for "AllMusic" there to know what I'm talking about). But, ok, I give up on this one. But prepare to edit-war ad nauseum with new editors until Grande stops being relevant. (CC) Tbhotch 22:04, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would rather err on the side of caution, particularly as the evidence isn't clear. Its very unusual that an artist as big as Grande isn't bold about her "single" releases. No official announcement by her, no coverage confirming it just a case of it being "promoted" to radio. It's just not quite clear cut enough for me unlike Dance in the Dark or Hummingbird Heartbeat which have very clear add dates. I hate that music releases are questionable and there's now so much ambiguity we have to have these debates all the time. ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 22:10, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I had no opinion on this before as I thought the sourcing was adequate, but now that I see that it is an issue, I would err on the side of caution as well. Let's wait until there is an official listing before changing it to a single. D🐶ggy54321 (let's chat!) 14:01, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
