Notable storms[edit]

I just finished the 1996 season, and did 1997, 1998, and 2003 with the notable storms format. Is this acceptable for showing major storms, should we show no notable storms, or should we list every storm each season? I notice that on the 2004, 2002, 2001 (with the exception of Vamei), 2000, and 1999, it doesn't say anything about the individual storms. How far back?[edit]

Like any list of seasons, the question begs to be asked; How far back should we go. JTWC reports go back to 1959, Unisys goes back to 1945, but reliable satellite imagery only goes back to around 1970. I am sort of adopting this as my section of the month (I try and improve a hurricane section each month, I've done stubs, Atlantic hurricane seasons, individual summaries for 1950-1978 seasons), so I will do whatever. I personally vote for 1950; a nice, round date and a good mid-point IMO for 1945 and 1959. Hurricanehink 03:08, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just putting it here so I don't lose it. This has naming for every typhoon up to 1951, beyond the 1959 JTWC report. That will help once I get there....

Why not go all the way? Like the Atlantic, there are obviously some storms before 1950, but how do we find them? I'm sure with some research, we could go back to 1940, with a Pre-1940 Pacific typhoon seasons article to encompass all years, like the North Indian season list. (see below) Is this fine with everyone here (oh wait a second, is anyone even here besides Rattleman?!)?

Good news! I just found a website that will allow me to go back to 1566!

How should the articles go? Personally, I think it should be yearly back to 1950. From 1600 through 1950 it would be decadal. There would be one last article, Pre-1600 Pacific typhoon seasons. Good? Bad? Does anyone even care? Hurricanehink 02:35, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Philippine Storm Names[edit]

How far back should we mention those? All the way? 1990? Personally, I am just pasting the list every 4 years, fixing accordingly for retired storms. I have no idea which storm is which, so should we bother keeping it? Do we even have a source for the names for each season?   • Check this file at the Typhoon2000 website by Michael Padua. They have names of Philippine storm names and their english names from 1963 to 1988, [[7]]. And you might be able to ask him additional information at this topic at the discussion centre [[8]] 8 November 2005

Pre-1950[edit]

We should have an article Pre-1950 Pacific typhoon seasons, that simply gives a tabled list of storms like is done for the old Atlantic articles. Well, we should start by making a pre-1950 article, then when enough information is available we can split it up and keep moving it back in time. Certain typhoons like the Kamikaze would never be mentioned outside of a pre-XXXX article. — jdorje (talk) 01:04, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Minimum article requirement[edit]

It seems to me that the minimum number of storm descriptions in an article to let it stay is four. Is that true or should it become a rule in the west pacific? Icelandic Hurricane #12 14:21, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Corrections on article[edit]

Every article before 1963 says that PAGASA is naming storms within its AOR (or suggest they did?). But PAGASA haven't even started naming tropical storms until 1963 when they have established a 4 list of names. Should this be corrected? Season dates[edit]

Most of the years lead paragraph has "most... form May to November" but some (60's to 80's in particular) have June to November. Btljs (talk) 05:42, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Regions[edit]

According to the Natural hazards map of the circum-Pacific region. There are three region of storm in pacific area as Philippines, East pacific (coastal of Mexico to Nicaragua) and around Australia-New Zealand. Is it possible to write here?--Tranletuhan (talk) 09:11, 29 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Table cleanup[edit]

I personally think that the tables regarding each PTS' stats could be better organised? Perhaps taking off the column of the number of retired typhoon names since someone can just basically see and count how many there are. This goes the same towards the decades' totals of the retirees because I believe there is a separate article(s) for that regarding retired typhoon names, either by the JMA or PAGASA. Move?[edit]

List of Pacific typhoon seasons → Pacific typhoon season. There is no:

  1. List of Atlantic hurricane seasons
  2. List of Pacific hurricane seasons
  3. List of North Indian Ocean cyclone seasons
  4. List of South-West Indian Ocean cyclone seasons
  5. List of Australian region cyclone seasons
  6. List of South Pacific cyclone seasons and to a lesser extent,
  7. List of South Atlantic tropical cyclone seasons (redlink)
  8. List of Mediterranean tropical-like cyclone seasons (redlink)... I don't view those as TCs.

Column headings for 1940s table[edit]

I noticed that, in the tables, the columns for the number of storms are titled

TD TS TY STY

except for the 1940s, where the order is different and they're

Is that by any chance a typo?

1970s[edit]

I noticed that in the table row for the 1970s, you have 1971-1974 grouped together when they all have individual articles. I don't want to start an edit war, so is this something that should be changed or not? CodingCyclone (talk) 21:53, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

SSWS comparison[edit]
