Township Status[edit]

The township was created primarily to prevent the City of Las Vegas from annexing the Strip.

Hmm ... who created it, and why didn't they want the area to be part of Las Vegas proper? --Jfruh 20:30, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Conventional wisdom is that the casino owners didn't want to be part of the city's tax base, but I'm looking for a source, now... -Satori (talk) 20:42, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Couldn't find any source online that gives this history... I will search for an offline source if I get some time this weekend. -Satori (talk) 21:57, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Self Promotion[edit]

The admin Lucky 6.9 and user 89020 both seem to agree that making mention of a major business is self-promotion on my part, even though the only connection I have to the law firm of Jones Vargas is I live in the same metropolitan area. This seems to be a case of not knowing who this company is. The law firm is powerful and influential, and as the sole legal counsel of companies like Ford Motor Company and nVidia Corporation, it is not a small two-bit ambulance chaser firm. I feel it deserves mention as being located here, as the firm houses a number of pretty prominent people, ranging from Joe W. Brown, a member of the Nevada Athletic Commission to former Governor of Nevada Bob Miller. It is a significant company and I feel it should be mentioned. --Visual77 03:08, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Let me understand this better. You want to add the name of a law firm to the Paradise, Nevada page, because it is located there, and they have a lot of clients that are relitivly notable, but most people have never heard of, correct? I don't think that is a good arguement. Chexmix53 (talk) 22:24, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unincorporated Township?[edit]

I don't really understand why Enterprise and Paradise are separate from Las Vegas, Nevada, and these articles do nothing to explain this. They also don't do anything to tell you where exactly their cutoffs are, with the exception of longitude and latitude lines (which most people don't know by heart). Does anyone know why these townships are separate, and can they explain? I heard a while ago it was so the City of Las Vegas couldn't annex them, but I don't know if that is true, or what it means. I see that someone else addressed this 3 years ago, but it hasn't been brought up since. Chexmix53 (talk) 22:25, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone want to write the article on unincorporated townships in Nevada? It would take an article to explain since there are many reasons and conditions to annex or not annex county land into a city. Vegaswikian (talk) 22:26, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Township again[edit]

The lead sentence said Paradise was part of Las Vegas Township, which I removed, since the minor issue of which muni court serves the area seems unworthy of such an awkward (and non-grammatical) mention in the lead sentence. Also, the history section says Paradise was granted township status in 1950. Are these two different types of townships? This should probably be explained.

I also think we should work Las Vegas into the lead sentence somehow for the purposes of POLA, like maybe: "Paradise is a census-designated place (CDP) in Clark County, Nevada, United States, encompassing an area that is commonly known as Las Vegas." Thoughts? —[AlanM1(talk)]— 14:59, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

i would agree, but i'm still confused by the basic concept. the las vegas strip is technically NOT IN las vegas but rather in neighboring paradise, or las vegas as a whole is mostly INSIDE OF paradise, but treated differently b/c of this incorporated/unincorporated thing?
if the latter, then what does the final paragraph mean: "if Paradise were to be an incorporated city it would be either the fourth or fifth largest city in the state, AFTER LAS VEGAS (585,000)..."? say whu...?! how can u compare them if one is inside the other?!
so i conclude it must be the former, then? las vegas and paradise are simply side-by-side, NO OVERLAP, with the "las vegas" strip being in the latter? and that las vegas, the city, has a large (585,000) population completely OUTSIDE of the strip?
is THAT the idea? 209.172.23.109 (talk) 18:17, 21 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that is exactly the case. Las Vegas and Paradise are separate entities. When people visit the Strip they tend to say they are in Las Vegas (and the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign doesn't help matters) but they are really in Paradise (with the exception of the Stratosphere, which is the only Strip hotel/casino located in the city of Las Vegas). Downtown Las Vegas/Fremont Street are of course in Las Vegas.47.137.183.192 (talk) 06:10, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding 'Las Vegas Suburbs.jpg'[edit]

This picture, which is currently used in the article, appears to be taken from the Stratosphere, facing ENE. None of the areas shown are actually in the Town of Paradise; they're either in the City of Las Vegas, or further out, the Town of Sunrise Manor. A small sliver of the Town of Winchester is visible on the far right. I'll try to track down a different picture that actually is within Paradise. --UED77 (talk) 20:57, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Demographics[edit]

The racial make-up figures for 2010 seem to add up to only about 85%. Something is presumably wrong or missing. Sussexonian (talk) 18:19, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The remaining 14.6% identified as some other race. Toohool (talk) 20:46, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Rank of Paradise CDP[edit]

The census-designated-place data seem stated incorrectly. "Its population was 191,238 at the 2020 census, making it the fifth most populous CDP in the United States; if it were an incorporated city, it would be the fifth largest in Nevada". What dies it mean? How can this be the fifth most-populous CDP in the United States and also the fifth largest in Nevada? Dudshan (talk) 21:27, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Dudshan: It's meant to be read like this: if it [=Paradise] were an incorporated city, it would be the fifth largest [incorporated city] in Nevada. Lennart97 (talk) 18:45, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good work, I thought so but didn't feel comfortable making that edit without research. Dudshan (talk) 04:25, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
