Usability

With the whole internet from which to choose, I came directly to this page to see if IDE is synonymous with PATA.

First, the article provides an extensive history of a dozen permutations which didn't answer the question. Finally, under Current terminology, it says, "The terms 'integrated drive electronics' (IDE), 'enhanced IDE' and 'EIDE' have come to be used interchangeably with ATA (now Parallel ATA, or PATA). In addition, blah blah blah.... Nevertheless, a request for an 'IDE' or 'EIDE' drive from a computer parts vendor will almost always yield a drive that will work with most Parallel ATA interfaces.

This gets me about 95% to my goal. I'd like to accentuate the need for compatibility information. Perhaps a separate chart, although it will only be a 2X3 table, but it will answer the question concisely. Thanks, -n- MicaShist (talk) 20:18, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Hello! Well, the article clearly says that IDE and PATA aren't synonyms. To recap the article's lead section, the PATA standard uses ATA and ATAPI standards as the underlying technology, while ATA (in its different iterations) is the successor of the original IDE interface. — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 14:37, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
