Louisiana[edit]

I wonder why Louisiana has parishes while all the other states have counties. Does anybody know? --Pee Wee 17:57, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's because of Louisiana's high Roman Catholic Population. Louisiana used to have counties, but these were changed over to parishes shortly after statehood. Sf46 (talk) 00:26, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
@Sf46 and Pee Wee: That's not quite correct. They were originally "parishes", then "counties", then "parishes" again. See List of parishes in Louisiana#History. --Thnidu (talk) 05:33, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

how to abbreviate Parish?[edit]

Does anyone know if you can abbreviate parish, like county is 'co.'? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.139.118.222 (talk) 18:55, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Estonian translation[edit]

I think that correct translation of word 'parish' into Estonian is 'kihelkond'. Ahsoous (talk) 23:54, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
