Article name[edit]

Wow! This is a very good article. Shows very good dedication MickMackNee!! One thing I would ask is whether the article should have a lower case "ride", as per the main Park and ride article, which is lower case. I presume you thought about this, I would like to know your reasoning (don't worry I'm not questioning it!) Arriva436talk 20:42, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't even think about it. Is it a proper noun? I don't know. MickMacNee (talk) 21:53, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't have thought so. The phrase is used for many different brands, all using different letter types and combinations, so I doubt it can be a proper noun as nothing is kept the same!! The main park and ride article uses lower case, as do Preston park and ride and York park and ride. There are also the Wikipedia:Naming convention rules "Use standard English for titles even if trademarks encourage otherwise" and "Lowercase second and subsequent words in titles" Therefore, with the reasons and policies given above, and to keep in line with existing article names, I would suggest a move to "Park and ride bus services in the United Kingdom". Any ideas? Arriva436talk 13:53, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not minded either way to be honest. MickMacNee (talk) 13:56, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK then I'll do it right now! It just keeps it simpler. Arriva436talk 14:22, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Now done. I have also been making some other edits, by adding examples or expanded some ideas etc. I have done some big edit summaries to explain these edits. Arriva436talk 14:58, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Guidlford[edit]

P.s. Per the guildford edit [1], it was meant to be a table made against number of permanent 5 day a week sites (see the footnote at the bottom of the section). But judging by your e/s I rechecked their website and I had the wrong original count anyway, so I have moved it to under 2 sites. MickMacNee (talk) 22:01, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I didn't even see the footnote, I was too busy trying to read bits of the article at the same time!! Guildford's a funny one, as there are two regular services. One is a purpose built site, which route 200 runs Mon-Sat. The other is route 100, which serves the leisure centre car park Mon-Fri. On Sats, route 101 goes from the Ladymead site in an office car park. To confuse the matters, route 100 still runs on Sats & Suns, but on those days the leisure centre needs full capacity for the car park. And then there's the Uni car park on Sats, served by normal buses. There's also one under construction and another being proposed! Arriva436talk 13:42, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Further to the Guildford edits, I have also removed it from an example in the text saying different sites or routes may have a specific livery. Cambridge and Norwich etc do have this for each route, but Guildford's 5 buses are painted in the colours of the seasons; there are green (summer), dark green (spring), blue (winter), brown (autumn) and pink (spare bus - there's always one that ruins it!). They are put on each route randomly. In fact one is often on normal route 4! Arriva436talk 14:58, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah right, nice idea. I thought I had seen each one on a specific route on a fotopic site, probably just what they were doing at the time. MickMacNee (talk) 15:05, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well it would always be hard with buses in five different liveries and only two regular sites and three routes!! It is unusual though, I can't think of any other examples? Arriva436talk 15:23, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

← I have now moved Guildford back to 3 sites, following the opening of the third site at Merrow yesterday. [2]Arriva436talk 17:16, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Marketing and liveries[edit]

This section has some out of date information.

"All-over liveries are employed in single or multiple site schemes. Liveries often emphasise the green credentials of the scheme, such as Plymouth's cloud livery, or by using green as a base colour (Oxford, Winchester). Other schemes use a bold overall colour scheme to reinforce the brand with publicity material, such as the Chelmsford (jet-black), Maidstone (yellow), Canterbury (Silver base with green piping and decals), York (All-over silver with large red City crests), Basingstoke (purple) and Ipswich (pink), coordinated with the colours used in a website/publications. In some multiple site schemes, the all-over livery aspect is often extended to a distinct livery for each route/group of routes, such as the multi-colour coded schemes of Swansea, Norwich and Cambridge."

Plymouth park & ride is now light blue and navy blue, Oxford park & ride is now purple [1], Maidstone park & ride is now green [2], Canterbury park & ride is now white all over, Ipswich park & ride is now a commercial operation using all over blue buses and have not been pink for at least two if not three franchises [3]. Taunton Flyer has turned into 'Taunton's park & ride' and Webberbus have gone out of business [4] [5]. After a little research, it turns out Swansea no longer has a dedicated park & ride service; These are covered by the UniBus 8 and route 34 [6]. Nowell87 (talk) 15:44, 28 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
