In cast versus starring role[edit]

The section title is "Cast", not "Starring roles." Given that, my opinion is that S stays on the list. David notMD (talk) 01:29, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thanks for this. I've dropped a note at WT:FILM for further input. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:22, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We normally base the names in the Starring parameter in the infobox on the poster billing block. Out of the posters for the film on IMP Awards, only these two ([1] and [2]) have actors on the billing block, and neither include Salvatore Ruocco. So he shouldn't be in the Starring parameter. Then, for the Cast section, it should be decided if it's notable, since the character doesn't have a proper name and the actor doesn't have an article. Perhaps if one of you has seen the film, you can attest if his presence in the film is notable enough to include him based on that alone, but I find it unlikely. It certainly should be at the bottom of the bullet list and not in the middle. —El Millo (talk) 08:42, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Per WP:FILMCAST, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. If the cast is small (say under 20 actors) then there is no harm in listing all the actors, but if the cast is large then there needs to be a sensible inclusion criteria. Since there are over 90 actors in this film then it is reasonable to restrict the size of the list. Here are some suggestions:
  1. Billing – It is usually reasonable to include every actor whose name appears at the start of a film.
  2. Speaking roles/named roles – This can also lead to an unwieldy size (we don't need to list every actor who claims to be Spartacus for example), but a sensible threshold might be to include every speaking character who appears in more than one scene, for example. In addition, I personally also make sure all characters mentioned in the plot summary are included in the cast list.
  3. Cast lists in reliable sources – This is fine for small casts but probably not a good idea for a film with over 90 cast members.
  4. Blue links – A good solid test for mainstream English-language films, but could overlook prominent cast members in independent and foreign films.
I haven't seen the film, but the actor seems to play an unnamed character, so it does not seem to be a very prominent part. Would Salvatoreariel please explain to us what separates this actor/character from all the other unnamed characters in the film. Does his name appear in the opening credits for example? If not, how large is his role in the film? How integral is he to the plot? On the surface it looks like an indiscriminate addition to me, so a solid reason for the addition is required to prevent indiscriminate additions. Betty Logan (talk) 12:12, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you once again, Betty. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:34, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As a follow-up to this, there was an article created for the actor, which was deleted at AfD. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:14, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
