@69.113.119.200: The term patellar ligament (or tendon) is quite confusing, and it should refer only to the segment of the quadriceps tendon between the patella and its attachment on the tibia. The patella is a sesamoid bone, which means that it develops within a tendon (the quadriceps tendon). As a consequence, the patella separates this tendon in two segments, one proximal to the patella and one distal to it (the patellar ligament). Patellar ligament → Patellar tendon – Ligaments connect bone to bone.^[1] Tendons connect bone to muscle.^[2] This structure is a continuation of the quadriceps tendon, with the patella ossifying after birth as a sesamoid bone.^[3] It is possible to find scholarly sources that use the term "patellar ligament" and others that use the term "patellar tendon", so it is difficult for either name to follow WP:COMMONNAME. However, based on the definitions of each term, and embryological development, it may be more appropriate to use the term "patellar tendon".
