"Political offices"[edit]

Although this section is incomplete, it is surely a misnomer. His posts were not political ones. IXIA (talk) 19:21, 22 April 2011 (UTC) I agree strongly! Seadowns (talk) 09:42, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Earlier Carer[edit]

Nairne's civil service career started in the Admiralty, where he of course shone and became Principal Private Secretary to the First Lord, Lord Carrington. I have added this.
He was also a fine artist, in both oils and watercolour. He had a one-man show in St. James's in around 1960. He also had fine Italic handwriting, and benefited from the presence in the Admiralty of the great calligrapher Alfred Fairbank.
This is based onclose personal knowledge. 09:56, 1 September 2017 (UTC)
