Proposed change[edit]

Edit Request on 08 March 2024

Hello Wikipedia editors, I work for AustralianSuper and would like to request the following updates to this page. We believe these changes will ensure the entry reflects more current and correct information. Our suggested changes are below:

-       Title page and first paragraph: remove ‘union official’ as this is incorrect. This was Paul Schroder’s old position, and he does not hold this position anymore.

-       Fourth and fifth paragraph: Paul Schroder’s position at AustralianSuper needs to be updated. He is the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of AustralianSuper, not the Chair (Citation: https://www.australiansuper.com/about-us/our-people ).

-       Amend the third paragraph to:

In 2007 he joined AustralianSuper (link) as the Fund’s General Manager of Business Development. He was later promoted to the role of Group Executive Membership, before taking on a role as the Group Executive Product, Brand and Reputation. In 2019, Paul was appointed as the Fund’s first Chief Risk Officer, prior to his appointment as Chief Executive of the Fund in 2021 as the replacement for Ian Silk.

-         Amend the fourth paragraph to:

His appointment to the role of AustralianSuper Chief Executive in 2021 was controversial. Journalists at The Age criticised the fund's decision to appoint him as Chief Executive to replace Ian Silk instead of pursuing an international search process. Of the appointment, they said it 'did little to rescue the super sector's reputation as a storehouse for former Labor/union types'. Since his appointment Schroder has overseen the growth of the Fund, which is now the 18th largest pension fund globally (Citation: https://www.investordaily.com.au/superannuation/53931-aussie-super-funds-rise-in-global-pension-fund-rankings ) and Australia’s biggest asset owner (Ref: https://www.superreview.com.au/news/institutional-investment/australiansuper-emerges-australias-largest-asset-owner )

-         Amend the fifth paragraph to:

As of 2023 his annual remuneration as the fund's Chief Executive amounted to $1.14m.

-         Amend the sixth paragraph to:

As the Chief Executive of AustralianSuper, he has publicly advocated for reforms of the superannuation system to help make super more equitable, including reforms to reduce the super gender gap. (Citation: https://www.smh.com.au/money/super-and-retirement/absolutely-disgusting-australiansuper-ceo-says-caregiving-gender-imbalance-must-change-20220802-p5b6mj.html).

Thank you for your consideration of these suggested amendments. CommunicationsAS (talk) 23:26, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @CommunicationsAS, allow me to address each of your points in turn:
- Title page and first paragraph: remove ‘union official’
> No. The article already uses the word "former" to indicate that this is Paul's old position. His former career as a union official, I think, adds value to a reader looking to understand the subject of Paul Schroder. I do however, think it may be worth changing the article's title to just 'Paul Schroder' as a disambiguation is not needed.
- "Paul Schroder’s position at AustralianSuper needs to be updated"
> Okay.
- Third paragraph amendments.
> I don't agree with the capitalisation changes, others can weigh in here but I don't see why those words would be capitalised (they're not proper nouns?). I don't agree with the additional sentence, as it is unsourced.
- Fourth paragraph amendments.
> I don't agree with the additional proposed sentence. Schroder oversaw the growth of the fund... so what? All funds are expected to grow under the tenure of their management, this sentence would be mere fluff. What would be remarkable enough to warrant a mention would be if Schroder oversaw a period of remarkable performance like the fund beating the market under his tenure, or if the fund shrank. The fact that the fund merely grew as would be expected... Doesn't add any value to a reader trying to understand Schroder. I'm also concerned that this is an attempt to soften the negative information contained elsewhere in the paragraph by providing a positive concluding sentence, which I don't agree with doing.
> I agree with including the fact that AusSuper is Australia's biggest asset owner, but earlier in the piece.
- Fifth paragraph
> I agree.
- Sixth paragraph
> I'm happy to amend to: "He has publicly advocated for social reforms of the superannuation system to reduce gender inequality, including reforms to reduce the gender gap in super balances, such as assistance for unpaid caregiving work." Jack4576 (talk) 03:38, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Jack4576
Thank you for your consideration of these amendments and for the edits you have made.
Just a note to highlight that there are still two references to Paul Schroder as "chair" of AustralianSuper, which he is not and has never been. Could these references, in the third and fourth paragraphs, please be updated to Chief Executive to reflect Paul Schroder's current position?
With many thanks, CommunicationsAS (talk) 22:30, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, done Jack4576 (talk) 00:55, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Jack4576
There is still one reference to "chair" in the line "His appointment to the role of AustralianSuper chair in 2021 was controversial." This just needs to say "His appointment to the role of AustralianSuper chief executive in 2021 was controversial."
With many thanks again, CommunicationsAS (talk) 04:34, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for spotting that, appreciated Jack4576 (talk) 06:11, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
