Two articles?[edit]

I'm not making a formal proposal because I don't think it's important yet, but I wanted to discuss the possibility of splitting this article into two articles. As far as I can tell, it really deals with two related subjects with a shared name. One subject is the physical river delta while the other is the growing megalopolis which covers the delta region. At the moment, it works since I created the river delta header, but in the future when the region starts becoming an actual metropolitan area, there may be a need to split.--Caleb (talk) 17:46, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More History?[edit]

The Pearl River Delta has so much history as a center for world trade. I feel that the history section in this article is far too brief for such an important historical place. Mega City Project[edit]

An AFP article on Yahoo news seems to indicate the claims made in the Mega City section referencing an article from the Telegraph may be incorrect. "China denies plan to create world's biggest city" -- http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/chinapoliticscity

120 million ?!?[edit]

Under "Location and demographics" the article says: "The 2010/2011 State of the World Cities report, published by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, estimates the population of the delta region at 120 million people". Well, OK, it's the UN and the Guardian (see reference) stating this, but that doesn't change the fact that it's wrong. The entire province of Guangdong has about 80 million inhabitants plus an assumed 30 million migrant workers. The pearl river delta is just part of that province and though the 7 millions from Hong Kong add up to the PRD population, those 120 millions are just completely unrealistic. The number given under "Economy" is way more realistic here: "According to the 2000 national Census, the Zone had a population of 40.8 million people." Even it may be a few millions more now, let's be generous at a full 50 million, it's still less than half of those 120M. I'd suggest to remove that sentence completely. The maps are inadequate[edit]

Megalopolis v megacity[edit]

"The PRD is not a megalopolis but rather one rapidly forming megacity..."

I can't see that this is correct, as the PRD is a polycentric urban area, as is the case with megalopolises (whereas a true megacity is unicentric). What is the distinction being drawn here? Grant | Talk 06:06, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pearl River Delta[edit]
