I have translated this article from the es-wiki (es:Pedro Roldán). At the moment I've left untranslated two phrases that I'm not sure I understood correctly:
With reference to his daughter Francisca Roldán: "...se encargaba del encarnado de las imágenes..." I'd guess that this means either that she was in charge of the rough shaping of the sculptures, before he would do the details, or that she did the painting (encarnado can refer to the flesh tones on sculpture, but surely she wouldn't have done just the flesh tones rather than painting in general?) but I'm not completely confident in either interpretation.
Encarnar: Dar color natural al cuerpo en pintura y escultura. En la imaginería en madera se cubría previamente con yeso y sobre éste se aplicaba directamente el color. Carnación.[1] Andreas (T) 15:25, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Muchas veces Luisa ayudará a su hermana Francisca, la que será ilustre pintora, dibujante y doradora de retablos que además de ejercer como una reconocida artista enseñará a uno de sus hijos el arte de estofar y encarnar las esculturas, ayudándole a convertirse posteriormente en un famoso escultor sevillano. "De formación naturalista, su imaginería evoluciona hacia un mayor barroquismo, con un estilo personal tan elegante como libre de formas." I'm not sure I understand libre de formas in this context, so I have not translated it.
I think it simply means "free in its form(s)" so have added this. We don't have a reference for it so perhaps it isn't really a crucial point. Itsmejudith (talk) 09:13, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
