Discrepancy in size of the island[edit]

The article states "At 42 km², Pelee Island is the largest island..." and then goes on to say "The total land area of all islands in the township is 41.84 km²". There's a clear discrepancy in those numbers. If Pelee Island is included in the township and its area is 42 km² then all the islands in the township must total a minimum of 42 km². Population[edit]

I think the population on Pelee is less that 256 now. I would estimate it to be between 150-200 people. Does the population have to be quoted from a source for it to be changed to the proper number?

ferries[edit]

I find the section on ferry services jumbled and confusing.

Do both ferries service all three ports of call? Or does Pelee Islander only serve the US and the Jiimaan only go to the Canadian ports? Do both ferries operate the entire season, or is it specifically the Pelee Islander that is used the shorter period only? Assuming the Pelee Islander is the "Sandusky ferry" mentioned by the text, I suggest the following restructure. Note how individual sentences have been moved around to group related information together.

The island is serviced by two ferries, the MV Jiimaan and the MV Pelee Islander (owned by Pelee Island Transportation Company, a subsidiary of the OSTC). The MV Jiimaan operates out of the two Canadian ports Kingsville and Leamington. It is the largest passenger ferry along the Lake Erie route to Pelee Island. At 61 metres in length, the Jiimaan can transport 400 passengers and 40 vehicles. The Jiimaan was built in 1992 at Port Weller Dry Docks in St. Catharines, Ontario. The older MV Pelee Islander, which continues to service Sandusky, Ohio, USA; carries 196 passengers and 14 vehicles. The Pelee Islander was built at Erieau, Ontario in 1960. Pelee Island was formerly serviced by MV Upper Canada; when the Jiimaan began service to Pelee the Upper Canada was sent to Lake Huron (the Christian Island natives received her for transport to and from the mainland).

The leisurely cruise to Pelee Island can range from one-and-a-half to just over two hours depending on departure routes. In the summertime mainland passengers can choose to board a ferry at any one of the three ports Kingsville, Leamington, or Sandusky, Ohio. The Sandusky ferry runs only from late spring until early fall, while the Canadian ports of Leamington and/or Kingsville receive service from early spring until early December. When the ferries are not operating, the only practical way to get between the mainland and Pelee Island is via airplane. In January 2004, a Cessna 208 Caravan crashed on takeoff from Pelee, killing 9 pheasant hunters and the pilot. The plane crashed into the shallow waters of Lake Erie. It is believed the plane was overloaded and potentially ice-laden according to the aviation authorities of Canada.

Draining Pelee Island[edit]

When I was on tour there I learned that Pelee Island was actually three islands and the water between them was drained in order to create one large island. As a result much of Pelee Island is below sea level. I came here hoping to find more information regarding this, but there is no mention of it. I would write it myself, but I pretty much just covered all that I know of the topic. If anyone has more information I'd love to see it covered in this article.

There is no way that any of it is below "sea level" ! As Lake Erie is about 500 feet above sea level... If your story is correct, some of it may be slightly below the lake level. I have no information about that.Eregli bob (talk) 09:00, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Climate[edit]

I think there's a conflation between climate and forest region in the article. "Carolinian" is the forest region or biome of Pelee. The Koppen classification of Dfa (Humid Continental, hot summer) is the climate type. Done I fixed that issue. Removed the statement that its climate is Carolinian and changed it to that it lies within the Carolinian forest zone. Should be less confusing now. Ssbbplayer (talk) 01:22, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
