Issues[edit]

There are numerous problems with this page. The original version of this article was based purely on Theoi.com; this needs to be rewritten with proper sourcing to modern scholarly sources. – Michael Aurel (talk) 01:31, 2 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology section[edit]

@Deiadameian: Do we need to have the whole etymology section from Penelope here? I think surely that information would be more appropriate to have just at that article. This article should treat the issue of Pan's parentage, and the problem of the identity of the "Penelope" given as his mother. I don't think that just because she shares her name with Penelope that she should adopt the etymology section from that article, and it rather throws the balance of the article off. – Michael Aurel (talk) 15:23, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for late reply, I was a bit busy! Yes you're right, I've modified it. Deiadameian (talk) 09:46, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I do think that is an improvement, but do we need at etymology section at all here? Personally, I think it would make more sense to keep this article solely on the topic of Pan's parentage and the identity of the "Penelope" given as her mother, since it is debated as to whether this is a different figure at all from Penelope. – Michael Aurel (talk) 09:54, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly I added the etymology since 'Penelope' is in the title, rather than just 'Pan's mother'. I add etymologies in a standard-like manner, so the articles are self-contained. Also it helps the article get bigger so we don't have multitudes of three-line stubs lying around. But if you don't like it, sure remove it altogether, I don't mind. Ok, thanks. My issue is I don't really think that an etymology section is appropriate to this article in particular, since it represents a point of scholarly contention more than it does a distinct mythological figure. Since you don't mind, I've removed it. – Michael Aurel (talk) 11:04, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
