County Map

Why is the City of Philladelphia labeled on the county map? I understand why Harrisburg is labeled, but it does not seem appropriate to label Philly in this map.nChanq (talk) 15:49, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Since 1854 everything in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania has been part of the city of Philadelphia - a bit confusing, but it is both a city and a county. Ruhrfisch ><></fo--nt>°° 15:54, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Also, on some of those maps for other states, I've seen both the capital and largest city labeled, which may explain the situation with this map. AlexiusHoratius 15:58, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Demographics: SERIOUS statistical error

In the "Demographics" section, there is a chart listing the racial makeup of the state population (White, Black, AIAN*, Asian, NHPI*). Below that, there is a list of the "largest ancestry groups". The sum of percentages of the ancestry groups adds up to about 100%. This is obviously incorrect, because all of the ancestry groups listed are white, but the racial demographic chart indicates that only 87.6% of the population is white. This means two things: 1) that a significant portion (12.4%) of the population is omitted in this list of ancestry groups, and 2) the percentages that ARE listed for ancestry groups are skewed to cover the omission. I don't think it would serve this article to completely delete the ancestry information, but more accurate information should be sought out. I have edited the article to add this statement, in order to qualify what the ancestry percentages really show: "The largest ancestry groups are listed below, expressed as a percentage of total people who responded with a particular ancestry for the 2006-2008 census". State Symbols

Hey so I've noticed on a lot of other US State Wiki pages, their state symbols are consolidated into a info box, underneath the main info box. Just wondering if anyone thinks we should do this instead of having them at a chart at the bottom. I considered that, however there doesn't appear any standard format between states. Under Government there are a list of counties where Democrats are powerful and where Republicans are powerful. I am writing to request DELAWARE COUNTY be moved to the list where republicans are powerful. I believe this to be true holding that in the past 20 years a democrat has represented the 7th district only for 1 term, a majority of PA House and Senate members have been republican for over 30 years, and the fact that since the home-rule charter in 1972 no democrat has help a county council or county-wide row office seat. The wikipedia page for Delaware County even reaffirms the GOP stronghold over decades. Thank You

Regional Cities

The paragraph in geography about regional cities there is a reference Harrisburg-York a hub of the central region. I would think it would be more appropriate to cite these cities as south-central( like Williamsport being a "hub" of the north-central area) and adding Altoona-State College as regional cities in the center of the state. Cosmetic Problems with this Article

This article just looks bad on a quick sweep through of it.

1. There's an obnoxiously huge white space after the climate table caused by the two maps. The maps are supposed to be in the geography section, but clearly they aren't formatted correctly. I'll try tinkering with it, but I'm likely not the best at fixing this.

2. The climate data table itself looks scrunched and too compact. It could be longer and take up the whole row of the page.

3. The gallery section is humongous and looks cluttered. Do we really need a picture of every sizable community in Pennsylvania? It looks bad the way it currently is, and no doubt some cities need trimming. Can we stick with the major ones, please? A lot of the pictures don't even depict the city in an obvious way. In addition, it's better to have the images placed somewhere in the article than in a huge gallery. Sticking to images of the largest cities like Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Erie, Scranton, and a few others would do fine.

These are just my suggestions so the article is less clunky. I can try working on the first two, though the third may require more discussion. Scarlettail (talk) 02:08, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Agree re the gallery. Few of those photos are usefully illustrative, and many are altogether unremarkable. The same can be said for several of the photos in the body of the article as well. I think a bit of curation would improve the article substantially - in this case, less is certainly more. (I would start by removing the crayons.) JohnInDC (talk) 03:02, 3 April 2014 (UTC)
I agree that the crayons are really weird and out of place. The municipalities section should list just 10 or so, not 30, and the images should be moved up there. That's probably the next step.Scarlettail (talk) 03:45, 3 April 2014 (UTC)
I looked through other state articles and decided on the best, most suitable table for the cities, though a more basic table may work too. I considered a template like other large states have, since PA is 6th most populated, but apparently it's been deleted before. The rest of the gallery will likely go soon. Misrepresented percentages in spoken language

English is correctly listed as 90.1% however "Pennsylvania Dutch 4.1% and German 5.8%" are incorrect. If you read the source it is 4.1% and 5.8% of the remaining 9.85% of the total language spoken not the original 100% of spoken languages. I knew this to be incorrect because the amount of Amish living in PA is no where near 10% of the population of PA. The correct numbers are .041*9.85=.403% and .058*9.85=.5713% which are hardly worth saying but i will correct them Boilingorangejuice (talk) 13:06, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
