As for information, I've found this lenghthy article about him which seems to have been written in 1995 and list on the website of the Croatian sports writers' association which says he won the Sportske novosti Sportsman of the Year award in 1953. Also, it seems that Sports-Reference.com has his birth date wrong, as Croatian sources say he was born on 2 June 1932. A short bio here says he was member of rowing clubs Ošjak (from Vela Luka) and Mornar (from Split), and I'm almost certain that here is his obituary, published in the Slobodna Dalmacija newspaper. It simply says he died on 12 August 2004 "after a long and difficult illness" and that the funeral is scheduled for 14 August at Vela Luka cemetery. The lenghty article i linked first reads more like an essay, it says he began rowing in 1947 at the local VK Ošjak which was founded that same year. It says his first successes were three consecutive wins at youth level at the croatian national championships in the coxed four discipline, in 1948, 1949 and 1950. In 1950 Vlašić turned to single scull, although in 1951 he rowed for the last time in a coxed four with his VK Ošjak teammmates, and they won the croatian championship again, this time in the senior competition. In 1952 he went to serve his compulsory military service in the Yugoslav Army, and he served in Pula, where he was spotted by the famous rowing coach Luka Marasović who brought him to the Mornar rowing club in Split. In 1953 he entered his first competition as a member or Mornar, the Croatian championship, where he won the single scull race. (Croatia was at the time part of Yugoslavia so Croatian championships were regional events). That same year, in 1952 he went on to win the Yugoslav national championship in single scull as well as double scull, paired with Stevan Vaci, a rower from the VK Tamiš club based in Pančevo. Then he entered the European championship and finished first in the final held on 18 August 1953, in front of Teodor Kocerka of Poland. That year he won the said Sportsman of the year award. In 1954 he went on a 1 month tour around Europe and won numerous races, first at Duisburg and then at Groningen, both in borrowed boats, then at Henley. By the end of his career he won a total of around 40 races in international competitions, and another 40 in national championships in scull and double scull races. He competed in seven European championships and two Olympic Games, and won eight consecutive Yugoslav championships in scull, as well as seven double scull national championships, six of which paired with Nikola Lučin. In 1990 he was invited to attend the 150th anniversary celebration of the Henley race in London and on 23 October 1995 the Croatian ministry for sports and education gave him the Franjo Bučar State award.
