Translation questionable[edit]

I found the following statement in this article :

The word "periostracum" means "around the bone"

This translation seems to me a bit dubious. The Greek word ὄστρακον (ostrakon) means literally translated shell (of eggs, mussels, etc) as you can check here. It can also refer to a broken piece of pottery (See: ostracism). So I think the correct translation should be "around the shell".--Eusc (talk) 18:27, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
