– Per WP:ONEOTHER. There have been only two men — father and son — named Lon Chaney, Douglas Fairbanks, Noah Beery, Ross Bagdasarian or Perry Botkin. In the past, Wikipedia had two-men disambiguation pages for the first four, naming the father "Sr." and the son "Jr." However, the fathers were rarely, if ever, known as or used the form "Sr." while the sons were either always or frequently known as "Jr." The first four dab pages have since been deleted and replaced by hatnotes atop the fathers' pages (For his son, see Lon Chaney Jr. or For his son, see Douglas Fairbanks Jr.) Anyone searching for the son's entry would already have the hatnote at the father's entry without the need of going through the dab page. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 08:15, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Comment I certainly understand the logic for the move, but about half the references on Botkin Sr. use "Sr.", and I don't think either is WP:PRIMARYTOPIC based on pageviews or longterm significance.--Ortizesp (talk) 13:16, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The son has always been known as Perry Botkin Jr. and the father has been occasionally posthumously referenced as "Perry Botkin Sr." in the same manner as there have been occasional posthumous references to Lon Chaney Sr., Douglas Fairbanks Sr., Noah Beery Sr., Ross Bagdasarian Sr., Robert Walker Sr. or Alan Hale Sr. Since the last two are common names, used by a number of other notables, some form of disambiguation was deemed to be necessary.

However, in uniquely-named father-son pairs, where the father was primarily known without the "Sr." and the son was primarily known with the "Jr.", it seems best to use a hatnote atop the father's entry, without having to go through a dab page for both of them.

Here are the Botkin father and son listings in AllMusic and here, as an example, is Perry Botkin (the father) billed in the credits of 1958's Murder by Contract. Of course, anyone who nevertheless decides to type Lon Chaney Sr./Lon Chaney, Sr. or Perry Botkin Sr./Perry Botkin, Sr. will still be redirected to Lon Chaney or Perry Botkin. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 15:04, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
