Shadow minister?[edit]

How can he be shadow minister when the Liberals are in power or does shadow mean something different in Australia than the rest of the planet?--KaptKos 14:13, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Peter Collier is the Shadow Minister for Education and Training in the State of Western Australia. The Liberal Party is in power at a Federal level, while Labor is in power at the state level. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 14:44, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

– The American political author Peter Collier should be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, because he is far more influential in the world than the current topic of the Peter Collier namespace, a provincial legislator in Australia.

For starters, "Peter Collier" "David Horowitz" has 23.5k+ results on Google compared to the 18.9k for "Peter Collier" "Western Australia". I would agree that the politician isn't the primary topic, but I don't think the writer is either. Peter Fenelon Collier gets a similar amount of views so moving the dab page to the base term would be the best option. —Xezbeth (talk) 10:18, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Collier the writer is far from fringe, because he has written multiple books that made the New York Times Bestseller list and were reviewed in The New York Times. He has been nationally notable for decades, having written some guest stories for NYT in 1968 [1] and 1972 [2]. These of his books (co-authored with David Horowitz) made the NYT bestseller list: The Rockefellers: An American Dynasty in 1976 [3], The Kennedys: An American Drama appeared on this list in 1984 and 1985 [4] [5] [6] and made the year-end "notable books of the year" list, and Medal of Honor in 2003 [7]. The newspaper has also published reviews of his books: The Rockefellers: An American Dynasty in 1976 [8], The Kennedys: An American Drama in 1984 [9], Destructive Generation in 1989 [10] and The Roosevelts: An American Saga in 1994 [11].

"Peter Collier" author returns 41k results. Also, a google search of just "Peter Collier" returns the Peter Collier (political author) article first, and most of the top ten results are about the writer. "Peter Collier" politician returns 45K results, so I'm not sure what you were hoping with that argument. You do realise Google rankings are geographic? We saw it alright. Now, please see the definition of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC: it has to be much more likely than any other single topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined, to be the topic sought. According to pageviews [12], Google hits, and data displayed so far, the two contenders are in the same order of magnitude in notability and importance, even if the author has a certain edge, therefore a disambiguation page is called for at the base title. Fair enough. I can accept having the main Peter Collier namespace be a disambiguation article, considering the WP:WORLDWIDE purpose of Wikipedia. Regarding Peter Collier (political author) the American author, I wonder if a more appropriate title would be Peter Collier (writer), for simplicity's sake.
