Misquote[edit]

For the record: The following was in the article Petronius some years ago, but was removed:

In recent times, a popular quote (reportedly by Charlton Ogburn, 1957[1]) on reorganization is often (but spuriously[2][3]) attributed to a Gaius Petronius. In one version, it reads:

“We trained hard ... but it seemed that every time we were beginning to form up into teams we would be reorganized. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganizing; and a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while producing confusion, inefficiency, and demoralization.”

I've now added a brief version to this disambiguation page. Unfortunately, the last two sources linked above are now dead. (talk) 17:08, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
