This comment may not be suited for the main article, but wanted to mention that my house is about a mile from Phenix and I knew Dave Richter personally. (He died a few years ago.) He was, shall we say, a colorful personality. He wore a custom Phenix ball cap, but the bird on it was actually a buzzard, not a noble flaming creature. We imagined that his slogan should be "I eat gravel for breakfast."

One time, one of his workers came over and started venting their frustrations. This evolved into a story about the time Dave fired him. He answered back, "You can't fire me. It was your dad who hired me." Then the guy walked off the job. A few days later, Dave called to ask him when he was coming back to work.

Another time Dave was doing some digging for me. The main hinge pin fell out of his scoop, so he asked me to stick it back. I picked up the 20 pound piece of steel and beat it into place with sledge hammer. There was no retaining clip on the thing. Dave went on digging. Once in a while he'd stop and ask me to readjust the alignment with the sledge hammer. Frothga (talk) 18:50, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
