This is pretty interesting. A few more thinkers could possibly be added here without too much stretching.

A lot of phenomenologists (like Merleau-Ponty, Levinas) talk about exhaustion. As for the futility of life and existence of course we can talk about Sartre, Camus, Kierkegaard, all of whom have this sort of melancholy tone despite their radical innovation. This article may also benefit from comparison to another strain -- a sort of anti-nihilist strain -- to which Nietzsche, Deleuze, among others, belong.

Nystrom Misquote[edit]

The article had misquoted Nystrom. I have just corrected it, based on looking for myself at the passage in Nystrom's Economics of Fashion book. The misquote seems to originate with Stuart Ewen who quoted Nystrom in his 1976/2001 Captains of Consciousness book, which I have also looked at. Later writers seem to have trusted Ewen's citation and so repeated the misquote. Isokrates (talk) 04:37, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
