Earlier Phobos[edit]

The Appendix to the Handbook of the Marvel Universe entry for Phobos shows there was an earlier version who appeared in Doctor Strange. It is not clear to me what the link is but I thought I'd flag it here. (Emperor (talk) 04:20, 22 December 2008 (UTC))[reply]

I've done some reading around and had a stab at integrating this in but I suspect there is more information that can be dug up to demonstrate the link between the two. (Emperor (talk) 23:21, 22 December 2008 (UTC))[reply]
In the 2006 Aries Mini-Series, Aries distinctly states that his earlier son Phobos and Alexander are two different people. Alex being Phobos is entirely a retcon done by Bendis, which not only ignores the events of the Aries mini (despite the fact that the overall event of Mikaboshi taking over the pantheons remains cannon), but also the previous character of Phobos. The line from the article "It has been revealed that Alexander is actually the Greek god of fear, Phobos, reborn." is wrong. All that happens in that issue is that Daisy says she Wiki'ed Aries' kids and that he has one named Phobos. It does not state that the current character is the reincarnation of the earlier one.
Regardless, they are still two different characters. The current Phobos' first appearance is then the Aries mini, not Dr. Strange.

First Appearance[edit]

This section makes no sense whatsoever. Phobos has two first appearances? Phobos is both plural and singular? What?--74.235.10.129 (talk) 16:18, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Earlier and Current Phobos, First Appearance and Creator[edit]

I did some edits explaining the history of the characters, distinguished between the two, explained the ret-con with the current Phobos listed the proper creators and first appearance of the second Phobos (Alex) and added citations for everything. Please read through it before just erasing the changes, they are accurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.190.34.219 (talk) 06:20, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I Do NOT Think We Should Split this Article into Two Separate Articles for Each Phobos[edit]

Due to the nature of gods in the Marvel Universe, in addition to the retcon surrounding the current Phobos, the relationship between the two is unclear. The Ares mini states that they are two separate characters, but that was before Bendis retconned Alex into Phobos, so the if the statement is still canon or even if the previous Phobos even exists anymore is uncertain. I think the article does a good job of explaining this and also should keep the current organization of listing both character's first appearance, powers, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.190.34.219 (talk) 07:13, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think anyone is suggesting a split are they?
Anyway thanks for that. The section seems overly long and speculative and could fall afoul of WP:OR and WP:SYNTHESIS and might be better off trimming down to a couple of paragraphs.
Is there nothing from the creators to resolve this? There are quite a few Secret Warriors interviews around and digging through them might help resolve this issue in a much more succinct manner. (Emperor (talk) 20:10, 14 March 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Two characters or one?[edit]

Now that the comics have conclusively revealed that the two Alex characters are in fact the same character, maybe we should delete this section? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.187.40.173 (talk) 17:12, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Relationship to the Greek mythological Phobos?[edit]

What's the relationship to Phobos (mythology) here? Is this character based upon that mythological figure? Because if that's the case it should be stated in the lede with a wikilink to Phobos (mythology)...
