This article is written in British English, which has its own spelling conventions (colour, travelled, centre, defence, artefact, analyse) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other varieties of English. Much of the content would belong successfully in Camera lens.

A briefer article with this title could explain the differences between camera lenses, enlarger lenses, and projector lenses.

Projection lens[edit]

The following text was added to the article. It is however a suggestion for inclusion and has therefore been removed from the article and placed here.

Suggested Edit: This paragraph is not incorrect, but is incomplete. Traditionally projection lenses were always used at full aperture, however since the early 2000's it has become more common to use a diaphragm in cinema projection lenses to improve sharpness and contrast. (see Schneider Cinelux Premiere). Anamorphhic lenses, mentioned elsewhere in the article, should be mentioned here because of their importance in projection systems (cinemascope). Finally, digital cinema projection has made new demands on projection lenses, which now are usually variable focal length (zoom) to provide different image formats on the same screen, and also afford a large image circle to allow lens shift for centering an image on a projection screen without tilting the entire projector, thus avoiding keystone distortion. Thank you for your suggestions. I am knowledgeable about the subject, as an engineer and theater and attractions designer, however I am new to wikipedia contributions, so I appreciate advice. I could add citations, but I am hesitant to show a link to a manufacturer, as I do not want it to appear that I am promoting any product. I am interested in learning how best to contribute.
