Physical Media Dependent or Physical Medium Dependent?[edit]

Is it Physical Media Dependent or Physical Medium Dependent? --Liface 17:51, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Physical Medium Dependent - see IEEE 802.3-2005. I've renamed it. Guy Harris (talk) 23:05, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge into Ethernet physical layer[edit]

There are a couple of major problems with this article which I think could be solved with a merge into the Ethernet physical layer article:

  1. PMDs were actually defined way before the 10 gigabit Ethernet 802.3ae effort in 2002; indeed, the mainstream 100Mbit Ethernet defines the concept of a PMD layer.
  2. The listing of PMD types essentially duplicates the list of PHY types in Ethernet physical layer and 10 gigabit ethernet
  3. Minor: The wikification isn't that great - for example, the 10 gigabit Ethernet link actually goes to Gigabit Ethernet topic

I've updated this article (and Physical Coding Sublayer) to note that the PMD/PCS split is in part of Fast Ethernet and in gigabit Ethernet as well as 10Gb.

Most of the PMDs listed here aren't in the 10Gb section of Ethernet physical layer or in the 10 Gigabit Ethernet article - they correspond to multiple PHY types.
I've also fixed the links. Guy Harris (talk) 22:58, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

External links modified[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Physical Medium Dependent. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:
