Can I get somebody to clean this page up, please? I added the bit about the explosion in 1926.

Copyvio reverted 2007-04-17[edit]

I undid the edits made by User:69.115.55.235, because all the text is stolen from [1]. There's a notice at the bottom of the page stating the text is copyrighted. Discuss here if you disagree with my revert. - Tronno ( t | c ) 01:38, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OFFICIAL HISTORY[edit]

Most of your text seems to be copied verbatim from the Picatinny site, which is not necessarily public domain. This is against policy, and as a result your contributions may have to be reverted. Old Parade Ground?[edit]

When I was there, many years ago, the old parade ground on Main Post had an abandonned factory complex on it. The area was fenced off. I was told it was a WWI ammo plant that was so contaminated with explosives that it was impossible to clean up. DOes anyone know about this? Source of name[edit]

The source of the name is described here (not sure this source is sufficiently reliable):

Initially dubbed the Dover Powder Depot, the name was quickly changed to Picatinny Powder Depot, after the Lenape-named peak overlooking the old forge, loosely translated to mean “rugged cliff by water” or “water by the hills.”

It was quickly renamed Picatinny Powder Depot and then in 1893 the United States Powder Depot. Renamed Picatinny Arsenal in 1907. Named for a local mountain peak. Active military installation.
