Shortdesc[edit]

I've described him as "French-American" in the short description of this article, on the basis that, while a French national, he presumably was declared to have American citizenship on the founding of the United States just before his death, along with (presumably) every non-enslaved person in those territories, something which became de facto legally valid following the successful outcome of the American Revolution by which the USA became an indisputable sovereign state. — The Anome (talk) 16:20, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
