Pilimatalawa is the small village or town on the Kandy /Colombo road, 12 Kilometers before Kandy. The spelling of this name has now got standadised to Pilimatalawa.
Pilimatalavuva, Pilimatalauwe, Pilimatalauwa, Pilimathalauwe,Pilimatalawe,& Pilima Talauwe are names that refer to the same historical family that originated from the Pilimatalawa village. The differences in spelling are due to the difficulty in transliterating phonetically the Sinhala name into English. Hence hisorians have used differennt spellings at their convenience as they knew no better. The spelling closest to the old Sinhala name is Pilimatalavuva the name used by the recent author Ananda Pilimatalavuva, in his two books referred to elswhere.
