Unreferenced content possible advertising[edit]

There is a clear consensus in this RfC that the unreferenced content is promotional and should be excluded from the article.

  • Hi all--summoned for RfC. I understand why you think as you do. Much of this article has the tone of being written by a public relations firm, not so much an encyclopedic approach. Compare it to other city articles, and it is different from them in significant ways. Happy editing.Horst59 (talk) 16:58, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi - I am not sure this merits much discussion. An IP, 116.74.157.10 (and some others who I suspect are the same person), has been persistently adding this and other unsourced content to WP. I have deleted the latest addition and left the IP a note about sourcing. Even if the content were sourced it seems too trivial to merit inclusion. Regards. Orenburg1 (talk) 06:58, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi- Thanks. I agree that this does not merit much discussion. However, someone keeps adding this content every time it's removed and I did not want it to become an edit war. But as Horst pointed out, it seems kind of pointless given the tone of the whole article. Thank you both for your comments. Berlindian (talk) 11:20, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello all - also summoned by bot. I see that since the IP editor was warned, they have struck again to restore promotional info. I took a bit more drastic action to cull the promotional verbiage. I have this on my watch list and will be reverting any attempts to restore unsourced promotional info, as soon as I see it. Cheers. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 07:57, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also brought here by bot, and agree with above. Off topic somewhat: Found related article on Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation which doesn't seem to me like it should be a separate article. Please see below. Federalist51 (talk) 15:11, 27 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hyphen in name?[edit]

I noticed the article title is hyphenated, yet the hyphen appears nowhere else in the article. Is it necessary, or should this just be moved to an unhyphenated name? TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 15:30, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation website English version does not have a hyphen (note that Wikipedia also has an article for the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation which is hyphenated in the title but not in the text). Regards. Orenburg1 (talk) 18:17, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You are correct, but I just noticed that Google maps shows it with the the hyphen.[[1]] Unless there's definitive info that it's unhyphenated, there's no reason to change it. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:14, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Keep the hyphen[edit]

Hi, PCMC is pretty inconsistent with the use of the hyphen. While no hyphen is used on their webiste, a lot of their documents, development plants, etc. do consistently use the hyphen. For example:

Both the State and Central governments have used the hyphen in their documents:

In case of news it depends on the publication: The Times of India does not use the hyphen, Hindustan Times is inconsistent, The Hindu, Business Standard, The Indian Express as well as the local dailies Pune Mirror and Sakaal Times use it.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

I would say that more often than not the name is hyphenated and meets WP:UCRN. Since this article already has a hyphen and so does the corresponding article about the civic body, I suggest we keep using the hyphen consistently. Thanks! Berlindian (talk) 14:38, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Should Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation be merged into this article?[edit]

  • The article Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation seems to be a mostly duplicative article about the city and its governance. In some states in the U.S., cities are sometimes also organized as municipal corporations, but since these are one and the same as that city's government, they wouldn't usually, if ever, be described in a separate article. (For example, the city of Chicago is incorporated, but this fact is just mentioned in passing in its article.) My initial thought was that there nothing in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation that couldn't go here (although the lists of services should probably be deleted), but on further reflection, there may be a case for a short article on the political history, which includes election results in the other article. • Hi, most Indian cities have separate pages for the cities themselves and their respective administrations. I think that is the idea which is followed here. I have made substantial changes to the article Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation recently and would suggest that the article remains. It also makes sense given the ongoing vandalism of this page. Examples would be Mumbai and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Bangalore and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, Chennai and Greater Chennai Corporation. Berlindian (talk) 16:50, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the merger is warranted. The article does have lot of unique content such as election results.Chicago also has page for its city council and so do other big cities such as New York and Boston.Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is nothing but a city council.Thanks.Jonathansammy (talk) 21:44, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I also think it's an unnecessary merge. It would give the corporation info undue weight in the city's article. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 21:47, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Lists of schools and colleges[edit]

Hi, I would like to move the lists of schools and colleges to appropriate sections in List of schools in Maharashtra and List of higher education institutions in Maharashtra. I have written a short description of educational and research institutes in the city and have already created a section in the schools page. Berlindian (talk) 21:38, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Exclude hospital names[edit]

There is no need to mention hospitals in encyclopedic article, it needs to delete. {{WikiProject India}} Holland Tok (talk) 14:59, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Is Pimpri-Chinchwad a city?[edit]

Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation think that Pimpri-Chinchwad is a city. Their website has a page marked "City Location", which shows the boundaries of Pimpri-Chinchwad. The page also gives the population "as per 2011 census" as 1,729,359, and the "present population approx (appr.)" as 2,000,000. Another page is marked "City residents info", which says: "Pimpri Chinchwad, its a modern twin city situated South-East of Mumbai, in the North - West quadrant of Pune. Pimpri Chinchwad also happens to be the fifth-most populated city of Maharashtra and has long been famous for being one of the most prominent industrial destinations outside Mumbai. The twin cities of Pimpri-Chinchwad, governed by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), are located 15 km from the Pune city centre. They form a continuous urban stretch, adding to the overall Pune Urban Agglomeration, and contain a thriving industrial belt that primarily consists of engineering and automobile industries."

An IP editor disagrees. He/she says that Pimpri-Chinchwad is a "neighbourhood".[2][3][4]-- Toddy1 (talk) 17:33, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Pimpri-Chinchwad has its own separate municipal corporation. What else does one need to prove that administratively it is a city in its own right? Jonathansammy (talk) 01:35, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
