Dispute[edit]

I live in pingtung. What sources do you have to back up the following claim:

"The local Taiwanese consider Pingtung a suburb although it is very developed and dense by Western standards."

And what would it be a suburb of?

Kyle.Mullaney (talk) 03:33, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kaohsiung, I guess, if anything. "Suburb" might not be a perfect translation anyway. Taiwan is an extremely densely populated country (second only to Bangladesh if you don't count city-states). What might be considered "suburban" (not the heart of the city but not out in the country either) in Taiwan would probably be considered a downtown area in the U.S. or other less densely populated countries. I lived in a 10 story building in an area a Taiwanese person said was a "suburb". The small buildings in this area were only 4 or 5 stories tall.

The problem isn't the wording, the problem is the lack of a source. Readin (talk) 23:25, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

http://www.educationabroad.vt.edu/index.cfm?FuseAction=Programs.ViewProgram&Program_ID=10038 This link has some lines about Pingtung being a suburb of Kaohsiung. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 111.240.139.195 (talk) 06:01, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that the city is not geograpically connected to the Kaohsiung. Fengshan is a suburb of Kaoshiung as it is conntected directly but the amount of intervening farm land and small cities that divide pingtung from Kaohsiung prevent that statement from being true. Also commercially and politically the are separate. Link is broken. Furthurmore, Pingtung did not build up "around" Kaohsiung. it has been a city in it's own right for decades. It is not considered by the local people to be a suburb. Pingtung has it's own "suburbs" if that term must be used. Ligang and Haifeng are two examples. Pingtung CityPingtung – it redirect to article there is no ambiguity as the county is always known as Pingtung County not Pingtung alone. – — ASDFGH =] talk? 00:47, 17 November 2015 (UTC) Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 14:30, 26 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Moved from RMTR speedy move[edit]

  • Object to RMTR speedy move the target makes no sense. Further, if the nominator meant Pingtung then this is effectively a multimove, since the nominator displaced the disambiguation page that existed there; and should have been proposed that way. And the topic's Chinese name uses "市" (city); -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 05:16, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

  • Procedural close the proposer proposes to move two different articles to the same location, this article and Taitung City (see talk:Taitung City) so neither move can move forward, as both ask for the same location, Taitung -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 06:30, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • NOTE the nominator changed the requested target [1] without informing anyone via comment. This is rather bad practice -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 04:45, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
