Explanation of viewpoint[edit]

I'm confused - this article doesn't explain their argument at all. For example, if piracy were legal, why would people create art? Can someone expand this article with argument for and against them? Thanks Rm999

One may argue the exact opposite: That copyright protections REDUCE the incentive to create art, by creating a legal disincentive. Before publishing a work, one must take great legal care to ensure that it does not resemble any of millions of copyrighted works in any substantial way. Compare, for example, the extraordinary number of works produced during the renaissance with the number of works introduced since the introduction of copyright law, taking into consideration the immense difficulty of production and reproduction during the renaissance vs. the ease of modern production and reproduction. While there is an argument for the most basic of copyright protections (the prohibition of direct duplication of a work with the intent of financial gain or fraud), modern copyright extends far beyond such reasonable protection. Apart from the doctrines of communism and socialism, I do not believe that anyone rational has implied that an artist should not be allowed to profit from their works.
Further, given the disincentive of the legal ramifications of releasing a work without intense research of prior art, it may also be argued that copyright law harms the individual and aids the collective of a corporation - which runs contrary to some of the core principles of both capitalist and democratic societies.

the name[edit]

it's not just speculation that the name is a reference to antipiratbyrån, I have heard spokesmen explicitly say this. I wish I could provide a link, it's a youtube video somewhere. Activities[edit]

I erased a very outdated description of activities, which included providing guides for file-sharing (something which is very far from Piratbyrån's role as of today) and arranging a yearly demonstration (which hasn't happened since 2007). Instead, I added a motivation from the jury of Prix Ars Electronica, which much better characterizes the kind of activities Piratbyrån involves in. --Julmust (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kopimi[edit]

I've revamped the paragraph about Kopimi. The previous version stated, or at least implied, that Kopimi is a copyright license. It isn't, it's a symbol. I have also added a subparagraph about Kopimism, a term which was derived from Kopimi. The text was a bit difficult to source, but I think it's very truthful.
