Organization[edit]

The current TOC of the article is:

    * 1 Geography
          o 1.1 Villages
          o 1.2 Other geographic features
    * 2 Pomfret Street Historic District
    * 3 Demographics
    * 4 Education
    * 5 Historic sites
    * 6 Notable people, past and present
    * 7 See also
    * 8 References
    * 9 External links

I myself just made the Pomfret Street Historic District into a section, because I think it is needed for it to be one, if it is not a separate wikipedia article (which would also be acceptable). Pomfret Street Historic District should be a redirect to this section.

However, the organization seems choppy and doesn't make sense in some respects. Is it correct to consider Villages as part of Geography? I would think geography is about rivers and other natural features. Also I retitled section 5 to be simply "Historic sites". But perhaps it should be "Other historic sites", and/or should be placed next to the section on Pomfret Street Historic District. Or Pomfret Street Historic District should be a subsection within that section? I am trying to work with Polaron's preference that Pomfret Street Historic District be covered only in this Pomfret article, rather than covered in a separate article. If it is kept in here only then it complicates how this town article is to be organized, so perhaps it would be easier to split it out, but I still am okay with trying to make it work here. doncram (talk) 18:06, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting out should not be a problem if the split article would also discuss the town center geography/history/culture as well since they are intertwined. In other words, we should not have a separate village and district article. However, at the moment, there really is no substantial content to split out. I'll try and scrounge up some information on Pomfret Center if you really want to split it now. --Polaron | Talk 18:24, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have any special wish to split it out now or anytime soon, as long as it is covered in a separate section here and that it is clear about it at the top of the article. I put in requests for some CT HD NRHP applications, don't recall if i asked for this one or not. Then i am not sure if I would choose to develop this a lot, relative to other wikipedia stuff i could do. For now, though, could you perhaps clarify in its section, how long the district is, and which of the villages it includes? I had the impression from your comments somewhere else that it included both Pomfret Center and another one (or maybe i am now getting confused: i could be recalling about a different CT HD situation). Currently the article states that it runs from one road to another road, along a bigger road, but if it is a long and narrow district it would be relevant to say it runs 1.5 miles or whatever along the bigger road. doncram (talk) 18:57, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
