Tone[edit]

I've cleaned this up a bit after reading his book, which I found in a bokshop in Dartmouth for the sum of £1. Try an use a scholarly style, rather than a narrative - remember that you're writing an encyclopedia! Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry 00:02, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Walking 4000 miles?[edit]

Did Popski and his men really walk 4000 miles across Africa? That's how the text reads now, and it seems implausible. I have seen other sources saying that Popski's patrols covered 4000 miles in total during some particular mission. Perhaps that's where the figure comes from?

Sure you can't always walk in a straight line because of obstacles, but still, the straight-line distance from Tunisia to Cairo is less than 2500 miles! So even if they *could* walk a super-human 4000 miles through the desert, it seems unlikely they *would*.

I'm not saying that I'm certain the article is wrong, I just wish someone with good knowledge of the subject could perhaps verify the reference, or find other references.

Name of the article[edit]

I have moved the article back to "Popski's Private Army" because not only is it the common name it is also the name used in nearly all the cited sources for the article. Moving the article to "No. 1 Demolition Squadron " caused the Wikipedia article no longer to be in the top ten names (first page) for the article on a Google search on the common name "Popski's Private Army". If someone thinks another name is more appropriate then put in a WP:RM -- PBS (talk) 09:21, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New source[edit]

I have just read an excellent academic treament of British Special Forces in the Desert War and believe this page could benefit from a citation/reference. It is:

Hargreaves, Andrew L., ‘The Advent, Evolution and Value of British Specialist Formations in the Desert War, 1940-43’, in Global War Studies, Vol. 7, No.2, (2010), pp.7-62

From what I understand Dr. Hargreaves wrote a PhD on WWII Special Forces, but am not sure if he has written any books.

This could be useful to other pages dealing with similar units.
