Name change[edit]
It appears that the (recent?) change from the species name Populus tomentosa to the hybrid name Populus × tomentosa is arbitrary. The phylogenetic relationships for this taxon are still unclear, so why change it from a species name that is more or less accepted, especially without a reference?
