Hello :)

1 Dablink 1 Deadlink

The CAPIF site is dead. Until they restore the site, another reference is unlikely. —Hahc21 01:11, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have an archived version of the site that cites its claim? Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 13:12, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 12:03, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No archived versions :( A consensus was reached that until CAPIF's site is on again (it'll be on soon i think, since it was hacked) the sources stay. —Hahc21 13:34, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Infobox
  • The "length" section needs a {{duration}}
Lead
  • What does Poquita Ropa means in English?
  • It doesn't have an official translation, since its like "Little Clothes", but not totally.
    • Nothing does, but it is a Spanish language album and therefore an English translation would be great try using {{lang-en}} to do this. Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 13:12, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • I still don't understand the usefulness of the template, but i'll add it XD. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hahc21 (talkcontribs)
        • You may not understand the usefulness because you understand Spanish, users like myself who don't understand see the usefulness. Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 12:03, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Who released the album?
  • A drastic change from his past albums, Poquita Ropa was made trying to use the last number of musical instruments as possible, with the goal of leaving the songs "almost as they were born" without adding them much sounds, and achieving a production that seemed to be a capella performances, with the singer commenting that "music and women look better with little clothes." The result was named as to be Arjona at his "most naked". - is a run-on, on top of that there are no periods.
  • And the point is? Please elaborate further. Should be any periods within the paragraph?
    • Yes there should be a few periods in this paragraph that seems to keep going and going that's a run on. Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 13:12, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • and also topped the lists in Argentina and Mexico. - instead of linking the countries which are common, replace them with their music organizations respectively.
  • The album was certified Platinum in Argentina and Mexico, and reached Gold status in Chile, Colombia and the United States. - and these denotes? (sales or shipments and what are the numbers?)
  • Since they are different (i mean, shipments in a country and sales in another), i prefered to explain that on the article body. —Hahc21 00:40, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Puente", a caribbean song with Cuban influences, was released as the lead single off the album and became a moderate success for Arjona. - why? In other words, prove this sentence with peak positions and sales of the single if any
  • No numbers. Only No.36 on the Latin Pop Songs. I rewrote as this: ""Puente", a caribbean song with Cuban influences, was released as the lead single off the album and reached No.36 on the Billboard Latin Pop Songs chart". —Hahc21 00:40, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Instead of embarking on another worldwide tour, Arjona promoted the album with a film that was broadcasted on HBO and A&E, and featured Edith González. - why? what was the film about? what was it called? who filmed it? what was the genre?
  • Added film name and director to lead. —Hahc21 00:40, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Composition
  • In, Poquita Ropa he drastically changes his musical style. who does?
  • This album was the first since Adentro, that Arjona worked without Tommy Torres. year released in parentheses
  • "Puente", which is also the lead single, so there are two lead singles?
  • is the only notable exception. - sounds POVish, also what is this sentence supposed to convey to the reader?
  • The album is entirely acoustic, with the exception of "Puente". It's not POVish, references cover it. —Hahc21 00:52, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Puente" is mainly similar to Arjona's work on Galería Caribe year released in parentheses
  • Also, newspaper La Nación compared it with a song released by Fito Páez in 1999, "Habana" - (a) why start if off with "also"? (b) No the newspaper did not compared it an editor did.
  • Done. I added the editor and fixed the phrase. —Hahc21 00:52, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Why does this section only talks about the composition to only one song? Why do you start off with the composition of the song(s)? Where's the background and production sections? Who wrote the songs? who produced them? when was the album written? where? who? where did the concept of the album came about?
  • This is a latin album. Not much of that information is available, sadly. As the lead single and the song considered the standout of the album, it was the only properly covered by media. —Hahc21 00:52, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • Take a look at Amor Prohibido and Selena Live! both are Latin albums and have a background and production sections. This album can have one as well just have to look for those sources in google.news and/or google.books. Have you tried those sources yet? Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 13:12, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • Selena is different. Ricardo Arjona writes and produces all of his songs and rarely comments about how they are made. I've thoroughly searched and everything about the album is here. Nothing else. Remember that you have to review the article taking into consideration the information available, not desirable. —Hahc21 13:32, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
        • Well I don't know much of him so I assumed that like many other artists there would be interviews and/or commentary reviews on each or most of the tracks. This is fine, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 14:58, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Lyrics and content
  • I believe "Lyrical content" is a suitable heading.
  • Mmmm. Yeah, i'll change it. —Hahc21 01:00, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Talking about the theme of his song "Puente", is just POVish and WP:OR at its best. This sentence is written as if a fan was writing this article (which seems to be true).
  • Please re-read the entire phrase: "Talking about the theme of his song "Puente", Arjona commented: "Although many believe is a treshed topic, it isn't for a cuban, be it on the island or Florida. The status of this dispute hasn't changed since 1959..." And so on. Also, it is what the ref says. I don't like POV and just write what is covered by the references. —Hahc21 01:00, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • You keep saying that it is in the reference so are you copying this sentence "Talking about the theme of his song "Puente""? And it actually does sound like what a newspaper would say not Wikipedia. We already know the song is his song but starting if off with "Talking about the theme" is not a good start. Maybe starting if off with "The central theme explored on "Puente"..."? Does this fit with the coming quote? Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 13:12, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • Well, yes. I'll changed it. I see your point. —Hahc21 14:08, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delink autobiographical
  • as a reference to his then recently dead father. - why did he died? name? when did he died?

I have left some more comments. I'll continue on the review with the references once these are addressed. Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 13:12, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Refs will be easy. I'm very strict when writing references, so almost everything should be fine with them. —Hahc21 14:25, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've tagged what you have not placed a {{done}} to the issues above. Please fix or say that you have fixed them before continuing the review. Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 12:03, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I already fixed all before you tagge them but forgot to write it here >.<. About the CAPIF site, there is no replacement. However, the site will go on somewhere in the near future, since they are a certif. authority (and the reason why it's down is because the site was hacked). —Hahc21 13:34, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Further comments (second look)[edit]

  • "Poquita Ropa was produced trying to use the last number of musical instruments as possible" you mean "least number"? However Arjona tried to use the least number of instruments as possible. is found later in the article. Please fix accordingly.
  • Fixed.
  • "The result was named as to be Arjona at his "most naked"." this sentence does not make any sense, what are you trying to convey the reader?
  • Removed. Nothing worthy.
  • "Puente", a Caribbean song with Cuban influences." you mean Caribbean-influences?
  • No, only influences from cuban music. It has, however, a caribbean sound because it's a mixture of salsa and merengue, that's why it's caribbean. But, notwithstanding, its main influences (apart from being a salsa/merengue song) is Cuban music. —Hahc21 01:15, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • How can it be a Caribbean song if the artist is from Guatemala? Caribbean is not a music genre. Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 00:16, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • Mmm, i see what you mean. I removed the "Caribbean" word. It's only a song with Cuban influences. —Hahc21 03:21, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "This album was the first since Adentro (2005), that Arjona worked without Tommy Torres." ---> Poquita Ropa marked the first time that Tommy Torress did not work with Arjona, whose last production was for Adentro (2005).
  • Fixed but, as you suggestion introduced "whose last production was for", then Adentro is incorrect, since the last production on which Torres was present was 5to Piso (2008).
  • "is crafted in eight and a half minutes" poor English
  • Fixed.
  • The reference says: "Like Galería Caribe, the Arjona effort to which it's most reminiscent". I can removet if it's totally OR XD.
    • Again you can't copy what a source says, you need to rewrite it in your own words. Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 00:16, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • I re-read the source and it says thet the album is reminiscent of Galería Caribe, not the song. So, i moved the statement and rewrote it to comply with the source. —Hahc21 03:21, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Mmm, nah. The reference only says the song was made by Paez in 1999. It doesn't says it's a single, but only a song. So, writing "1999 single" is OR, since that info is unverifiable.
  • "La Habana is the main theme in lead single "Puente", talking about two separated brothers." ----> La Habana is the central theme explored in "Puente", which talks about two separated brothers.
  • Fixed.
  • "The central theme explored on "Puente", Arjona commented" can you just give a central theme about the song instead of going straight into another quote? Maybe saying "The central theme explored in "Puente" [is...]"
  • Mmmm , i rewrote as this: "When asked about "Puente"'s main theme, Arjona commented: (the quote)" It's not something that could be described without the quiote. I spent hours thinking about it, but the only way to properly express what is about is with the quote :(.
  • "It became the third consecutive single of Poquita Ropa not to chart in the United States." I thought that only two of the three single did not chart?
  • O.o Fixed. Thanks. I leave some mistakes while writing.
  • "The film was directed by Joaquín Cambre, is co-starred by Arjona himself, Mexican telenovela actress Edith Gonzalez, who also appears on the music video for "Marta", Edgar Vivar, Daniel Arenas, Mimi Morales and Kenny. Poquita Ropa - Una Historia Apasionada was produced in Argentina and Mexico" missing a word
  • Which one? Sorry but i'm tired and cannot read well :(. I dont' find it .
    • Reread The film was directed by Joaquín Cambre, is co-starred by Arjona himself. Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 00:16, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • I think i have fixed it :( —Hahc21 03:21, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • The missing word is "the" before "is co-starred". Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 23:41, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
        • Do you mean The film was directed by Joaquín Cambre, the is co-starred by Arjona himself? It doesn't make any sense (to me). —Hahc21 01:29, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Fixed (slightly different solution). Also trimmed repetition of González info, and cut parts of a quote that unnecessarily promoted HBO. BlueMoonset (talk) 14:17, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The film was directed by Joaquín Cambre, who also directed the music videos for "Puente", "Vida" and "Marta"." you already stated that he is the director in the previous section why keep mentioning it?
  • Done. Another of my leftovers.
  • "becoming the his highest entry on that chart." source?
  • Ups. Added.

Please fix these issues. Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 23:43, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's done. Thanks again! —Hahc21 03:21, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Note that the sound files need to be fixed; there's a copyright issue raised yesterday about them on the article page because they're of too-high quality. BlueMoonset (talk) 14:17, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Moonset. I will handle them soon, since I have some issues and stuff. Cheers! —Hahc21 01:51, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've uploaded 64kbps versions of the samples. —Hahc21 17:48, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

After a 3rd re-read of the article I believe it can pass GA. Great work on another interesting article. Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 21:51, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
