Portclinton.com does appear to be the town's official website, so there's nothing wrong with having at as an external link. Portclinton.org, on the other hand, appears to be an unofficial website with several ads (including for pibinfo.com, whose owners have spammed Wikipedia for over a year). The .org domain doesn't mean anything - anyone can get a .org, you don't have to prove that you have not-for-profit status. My initial feeling is we should not link to portclinton.org from this article. Rhobite 22:32, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Did you notice that the Mayors e-mail address at the bottom of portclinton.com is pcmayor@portclinton.ORG ?
Both sites are great websites for the city - portclinton.com happens to be managaged by a larger company than portclinton.org at this point, and thus has a more professional style and appearance.
I myself like portclinton.com, what makes it the official site though ? If portclinton.org presented the same data as portclinton.com and was run by a larger company would that make it the official site ? Both have been around for about the same time. I feel both should be left on the page.
as for accusing the owners of pibinfo.com of spamming anything ? You may not want to go there. That is another FREE website whose main function is to inform the world about the island and its many attractions. The only spamming going on was from third or fourth parties trying to create some kind of edit war so the competing websites would get banned - as they did. So now none of the real Put-in-Bay websites,(and there are only a handful) with real pertanent info can be accessed via Wikipedia. sad.
I dont even think the owner of putinbayphotos.com (the best visually informative Put-in-Bay web site on the internet) even knows what Wikipedia is or means ! - and you guys have even banned that site ! it's sad. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.71.107.62 (talk) 23:42, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What's sad is that none of this would have happened if the owners of various Put-in-Bay sites hadn't been removing each other's links from articles. Their inability to work together is the only reason these links are now in the spam blacklist. Rhobite 00:35, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
the owners, while competitors, do all work together and do business with each other on and off the island. Again, it was NOT the owners of the websites that where editing/deleting each others links. While the owners at times, may have been involved in ADDDING their respective links to the article(s), unless you know something I dont, it was other folks, not involved with the PIB websites, that where making a mess of things with the deletions and such. Putinbayphotos.com is a prime example, the owner, an older man, I believe, takes pictures for a living, has probably never seen the Put-in-Bay Wikipedia page, or may not even know what Wikipedia is. His site was blacklisted because someone kept deleting or changing the link ? Admittedly there was a problem there, but to ban His site because someone else was messing with it makes no sense to me? The link to putinbayphotos.com (along with other sites) where actually the targets of the vandalism, so you blacklist the targets ? not the source of the vandalism ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.71.107.62 (talk) 01:47, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
