Demographics[edit]

Where can we get some reliable information about this city's demographics? An IP user (76.7.38.140) has been changing this information a lot recently, but I cannot find a reliable source. Mike Restivo (talk) 12:48, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Demographics[edit]

I was able to find the 2010 Census data for Port Jefferson Station. See here: http://2010.census.gov/2010census/popmap/

It says that the population of Port Jefferson Station was 7,838. Out of those, 6,679 (85.21%) were White, 195 (2.48%) were Black, 420 (5.36%) were Asian, 8 (0.10%) were Native American, 3 (0.04%) were Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, 538 (4.57%) were Some Other Race, and 175 (2.23%) were Two or More Races.

There were 1,158 Hispanics or Latinos of Any Race (14.77%).

I also found a map of the 2010 census (http://projects.nytimes.com/census/2010/map), and it listed Port Jefferson Station as 77% White, 2% Black, 15% Hispanic, 5% Asian, and 1% Multiracial.

I think the person was changing it to make it seem like there was White flight or something. If the White population decreased to 85%, that means that it must've been higher in 2000, meaning that it was impossible for it to be 40%. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Checkmatechamp137 (talkcontribs) 01:18, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
