because of PPS's increasing focus on K-8 education, It may be beneficial to add a section to the listing of schools, under the sub-heading Kindergarten through Eight. --Master Runner 02:29, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Since no one has objected, I am adding a K-8 heading.

I thought of adding links to all the schools' fact pages on the PPS webside, so I am adding it. Also, with the fact pages in, I am removing all the photos next to the names of the schools to help "save space". Tv145033 1:36, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

About the idea of putting a mixed grade section in: I think it would be a good idea to put a mixed grade section, but I would think maybe remove K through 8 on the heading because not all the schools are K-8. I'm also considering put Hollyrood ES under the section because it is K-3. Tv145033 15:49, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

AfD

It drove me crazy trying to find the discussion, but Portland School District had been up for AfD. The discussion is here. Agent 86 02:38, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

I Approve of deletion of Portland School District. Master Runner 01:13, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

list of schools?

I don't see the value of having a complete list of schools in this article, or of having live links to their non-WP web sites. This information is readily available on the PPS web site, and does not strike me as encyclopedic. The list distracts from the text of the article, which contains more substantive information. That said, I recognize that the compilation of information reflects a great deal of work, so I'm not rushing to remove it - please reply if you disagree with my assessment. -Pete 23:40, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

I definitely think all the embedded links to the school profiles should be removed. Wikipedia is not a directory. I believe all the high schools have their own articles, and perhaps a middle school or two, thus they can be wikilinked and their external links removed as well (as the links can easily be found in the articles). Most elementary schools and middle schools are not notable, and thus should *not* be wikilinked. Just have a very clear link to the school profiles in the external links section for those interested. As far as having a complete list of the schools, I'm on the fence about that. If it were up to me, I'd probably leave it (formatted into columns), but I wouldn't object if it got deleted either. Perhaps check in with Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools. If left, it might work better to put it at the end, after the more substantive text (which of course badly needs some cleanup). Budget & Services Offered

I agree with the consensus in the "list of schools" discussion above: there is not need to replicate this information which is available without much trouble on the PPS website. I do think however, encyclopedic information that people would find useful is missing; particularly the budget that PPS runs on and issues surrounding it, as well as what the schools and school district offers to students. Outdoor School, for instance, is something which is integral to any PPS 6th grader's education, but I see no mention of it on the page. Perhaps we should add a "Services Offered" or "Educational Programs" section to cover this? JordanRL 22:59, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Outdoor School is a program of the Multnomah Education Service District, and is covered in that article. Ipoellet 22:36, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Updating The Reconfiguration

Most of the reconfiguration information is over a year old, and much of it is very inaccurate. This page contains information on what the School board has already approved, and this page contains information on the entire reconfiguration project. I already fixed much of the information in the Northeast (Gregory Heights, Rose City, Lee, Scott, Vestal and Rigler) section... the rest of it needs to be dealt with as well. Enrollment

This part of the article "The Portland Public Schools enroll over 90% of the available school-age children, a higher percentage than other large urban school districts" is untrue according to the most recent study posted on the PPS website. The capture rate is only 84%! (reference page 13 here: http://www.pps.k12.or.us/depts/communications/reconfig/conversations/Enrollment_data/PPS_Enrollment_Forecast_Report_2005g.pdf)
