Under the heading "Early years" it states "The standard for describing perforation is the number of holes (or the "teeth" or perfs of an individual stamp) in a 2-centimeter span".

Under the heading "Late 20th Century" it states "A perforation gauge can be used to measure the perforation that are quoted in perfs per inch." The extenal link "http://www.findyourstampsvalue.com/phil_terms/perforation.htm" states "A Perforation Number (such as 10 or 11x10) indicates the number of holes in a space of 2 centimeteres along the edge of a stamp."

Which is correct: "per 2-centimeter span" or "per inch"?

It's 2 cm; I tweaked the article to say something about perf gauges instead, which is better for context. Stan (talk) 14:58, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
