The hits for items like "preventive maintenance" give definitions from MIL and US standards. Many topics of this kind are covered by ISO standards and EN standards which are referred to on a much wider, more international basis. What are the copyright issues if I were to quote ISO or EN standards when adding contributions?

I would expect that is considered fair use. Wikipedia:Fair use seems to have more information and resources to address your question more specifically, however. 70.250.184.212 (talk) 17:00, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have a problem with the definition of planned maintenance. This appears to actually address time based replacement or rebuild, etc. As maintenance includes inspections, and taking condition monitoring readings or measurements is inspecting, and this is often done on a time or usage basis, planned maintenance includes condition monitoring, which is a necessary part of condition based maintenance. In other words, stating that planned maintenance and condition based maintenance are two unless different things is just wrong. They are not mutually exclusive - unless you use a definition of 'maintenance' that excludes routine inspections, which is plain crazy...

I know that this might sound like nit-picking, but getting fundamental definitions right is important.

Shouldn't 'planned maintenance' be replaced with 'Time or usage based replacement or overhaul'?

Does anyone have an opinion on this or a better suggestion for the term to be used? Mfhall (talk) 02:16, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
