Terret Castle Mound[edit]

Is this article about the surname Probert or about Terret Castle Mound? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:58, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

IP 2A02:C7C:8407:A000:2120:312F:72F3:6DC4, the info box for Terret Castle Mound, that you have placed at the top of the article, makes it look like the article is about the mound. What are you trying to achieve here? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:57, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Echoing the above, what on earth is this article? It's littered with bare urls as sources, its Infobox makes no sense, it has chunks of material copied, without attribution, from other Wiki articles, some of which I largely wrote! It seems to be the beginnings of another genealogy page, in the tradition of User:Lobsterthermidor, and, were the IPs not blocked, I'd expect to see loads of 19th century Welsh genealogical histories shortly appearing as sources. Can we clarify what this is supposed to be about? KJP1 (talk) 12:13, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
p.s. On the assumption that the IP(s) will likely not reply, I shall shortly trim this quite severely, re-naming it Probert (surname), along these lines, Kennedy (surname) and removing material not directly relevant - which is most of it. KJP1 (talk) 12:23, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No one can doubt your Proberty. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:34, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've rarely seen such a cr*p article, and to find stuff I wrote in the midst of it was just the icing on the cake! KJP1 (talk) 12:35, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nah... you're thinking of the cream in a Victorian Sandwich? But yes, a rather unholy mish mash. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:44, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Now, more critically, I've just done another important Newport house, Plas Machen, which ISN'T IN MONMOUTHSHIRE EITHER! But the images are rubbish. In Commons and on Geograph. So, in the event you are ever down that way these days, get your box brownie out. I'd ask User:Ghmyrtle but I fear it's rather far from his Monmouthshire heartland. KJP1 (talk) 12:51, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Folks in Chepstow tend to avoid Newport like plague. In fact, your chances of survival are probably better. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:54, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Quite so, but I'm even father away! That anthem manages to make ours sound rather jolly. KJP1 (talk) 13:01, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes, "Y Viva Paloma Blanca Espania"! I know it so well. Bless. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:29, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A YouTube clip in which Jimmy Savile introduces Jonathan King. Doesn't get much more un-PC than that! KJP1 (talk) 13:38, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, almost as appealing as a fish-flavoured wedding cake. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:54, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've now blitzed the Probert article. There's nothing to connect the generally widespread Probert surname - from ap Robert - specifically with Trellech. If they want to write an article about the Proberts of Trellech, they would need to start another article. Ghmyrtle (talk) 18:38, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ghmyrtle - many thanks, a great improvement on the previous mess of potage! Do you think it would be better at Probert (surname), which appears to be the syle for such pages? KJP1 (talk) 12:27, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the difference between this and a name like Kennedy, for instance, is that there are a lot of other articles on places, etc., called Kennedy - which does not apply here. The only Probert I can find that is not a surname is Probert Encyclopaedia - which could be mentioned here in a WP:HAT. So, renaming this page as Probert (surname) seems unnecessary to me. Ghmyrtle (talk) 13:26, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Pip Probert "multi-award-winning garden designer" and Sgt. Emma Probert RVO "royal protection officer" have no article and no target article. I believe they could be added as red links, but it might be much easier to just delete them? Martinevans123 (talk) 13:49, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ghmyrtle - a good point, I was looking at things like Kennedy (surname) / Yale (surname), which have lots of alternatives. This doesn't. and therefore probably doesn't need the qualifier'
Martin - I'd be inclined to zap 'em. The rule of thumb I use at this minor public school close to my heart is, no article=no mention in the alumni. Although I've broken that for Cliff Tucker, whose article I must get round to doing. KJP1 (talk) 14:12, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah-ha! I sense a new article, already being planned, for "notable William Burges enthusiast and Wikipedia editor"... Martinevans123 (talk) 14:18, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Prepared to give William Probert (1790–1870), "Welsh unitarian minister" the benefit of the doubt for now? Martinevans123 (talk) 14:20, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, I'd zap them on the same basis, but we could go with a redlink. As to myself...my life and career don't make me notable to my dog, let alone Wikipedia. KJP1 (talk) 14:38, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know the feeling. Martinevans123 (talk) 14:44, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
